For over the past six months I have been contemplating getting another piercing. I have had quite a few since I turned 16. But I wanted to take it to the next step after having had a lip ring for a while. I decided to look into different piercings and went through the process of pros and cons about them. And see which one would be the most socially acceptable. Since I will be going to a prestigious college as a grad student pretty soon. I decided I wanted the piercing to be a visible one because I do like to flaunt things when I can.

The main con was an answer to the question, "is this an acceptable piercing for the business world?". And the one piercing that came up with the answer to this besides my lobes was the septum piercing. That was when I knew I had found the right piercing for me.
After deciding on the piercing I had the next big decision, that being the jewelry and the gauge. So on Monday morning around 11 o clock I walked into Zebra's Tattoo and Piercing. This shop recently opened in Walnut Creek, Ca but established a reputation with its main one in Berkeley, Ca. As soon as I walked into the store I was greeted by friendly faces. That asked if they could help me find anything.
I told the girl that I was interested in getting my septum pierced. She then proceeded pulled out a drawer full of different size septum jewelry. And then asked me which size I was interested in. I looked over most of the gauges and had a hard time deciding, I came to the conclusion I wanted a black one. Easier to hide if need be. I looked at the 16g but that seemed too small and I wanted something that would be noticed to an extent. So i started to look at the bigger gauges, and looked at the 8, 10 and 12. These were all fairly large but still pretty small. Then I saw the 10g in this black finish. I knew right then that was the one I wanted. My only concern was the pain. I had only been pierced with a 14g for my lip ring and was worried about if it would hurt a lot and how much swelling would occur.
The girl told me it shouldn't hurt much at all. Being reassured by her I then went and paid 25$ for the piercing, 20$ for the jewelry and 6$ for the healing solution. After I had paid I was given a pager and told that it would buzz when the piercer was ready. As soon as I sat down to wait the pager buzzed.
I went into the piercing room and was introduced to the Piercer. His name was Wes. He was very friendly and very professional. He wasn't just about getting the piercing done with an over. He wanted to know why I wanted it. Overall this made me a lot less nervous. He then set up all his equipment and made sure everything was set. And asked me if I was ready. I told him I was and sat down. He then put the septum clamps on my nose and told me to take a deep breath and exhale. In a matter of seconds it was done. I had my septum pierced. I surprisingly felt only a pinch then nothing else. I asked if there would be any swelling. Wes told me there shouldn't be much if at all. If there is it would only be right around the piercing and nothing on the outside. He then asked me if I had any other questions. I asked him about care. He explained I just needed to use a sea salt soak and a solution. And to make sure I wash the solution off after I clean the piercing. And to try and not fidd le with it too much. I asked him when i would be able to switch out the jewelry to something else. He explained if healing went well and quick that in 3 to 6 weeks I would be able to change it out for something different. He asked me if i had any ideas on what I might want to change it too. I told him a a black hoop with neon green ball ends. He laughed and said that was a good combination and said for me to come back when I was ready and he would try and hook me up with some kind of deal if he could. I then left him a good tip. And proceeded out the front door with my new piercing.
