So about 6 years ago I decided, pretty much spur of the moment, to get my tongue pierced. It wasn't something I had ever considered getting and although I don't recall all that well there MIGHT have been a girl involved in that decision. Anyway, I wander downtown to a clean looking shop and start asking questions. Nothing about it seemed all that difficult so I went ahead. You all know the procedure right? Clamp, poke, bleed, insert stud. It was an easy piercing, my tongue didn't swell, I didn't have to re-learn how to speak, and there was no infection. Within two days I was making out, drinking, and eating spicy food. I was amazed at how easy it was. I had heard so many horror stories about what could happen that I was fearing the worst. Within a week it seemed completely healed although I decided to leave in the 1 inch bar 'just in case'. And for a long time everything was fine. Girls loved it and no guy that I knew or was around had one so I really stood ou t. Yay me.

I had no idea how it could have happened but am forced to assume it was the result of the tongue stud as the bead was a perfect fit, and in the perfect place, to have done so. Ugh... So I downsized to a shorter bar. Maybe still a little long but not too bad. I even went so far as to get acrylic beads which was the best decision I made concerning my piercing. The beads offered me the chance to get all kinds of different colours and images on them. I even went so far as to get a 'french tickler' which for each girl who experienced it was quite a treat. Every so often I would bite down on the beads while eating or drinking but that was very rare, and, because of the plastic beads, was never a problem for my teeth. In fact the only real problem I had was that every so often the roof of my mouth would get sore. Seems that in my sleep I would run my tongue across the roof of my mouth, causing a lot of irritation and pain. Within a few days the pain would recede and all would be well again.
Every so often something weird or gross would happen. Like getting a chunk of someone else's hair wrapped around the bar. Or occasionally swallowing a bead. Or once, in a very exciting situation, swallowing the bar and both beads. Waiting for that one to tear my insides apart was a fun could of days let me tell you..
I've often wondered as well what the back of my teeth look like because I would constantly run it back and forth across them, enjoying the sound and unintentionally drawing a lot of weird looks my way.
I thought off and on for years about getting rid of it, usually whenever I bit a bead or the roof of my mouth would get sore but I never did. It was unique, it looked great, and it was fun. And then I got the GREAT idea to get a bar fitted to my tongue. I go to a shop in London, where I live now, and ask the piercer a few questions. He's a younger guy but super knowledgeable and friendly. I was a little more aware of the questions to ask as well. So, moving on... He gets the plastic bar, cuts it, we check it out and repeat a few times until it's nice and snug on my tongue. I pay and leave. I also made one very very critical mistake. I left with metal beads in!!!!!!! Two days later. TWO FUCKING DAYS LATER I chipped another tooth. Badly. Almost to the gumline..... Ugh. That was the final straw for me, I took it out and within a few days it had healed over. I miss the tongue stud, it made oral sex a lot of fun. But it's nice be able to stick my tongue out wit hout having to open my mouth wide open. It's nice not to get spaghetti wrapped around the bar. It's nice not to have cashiers and other total strangers ask me to stick out my tongue because 'I just don't look like the kind of person who would have a piercing'!!!!!
Anyway, that's my story. Two chipped teeth and years of having a sore mouth are over. All I have to show for it a collection of colourful beads and some bars that will never get used again. I do miss having it sometimes, usually when I'm picking through my collection of body jewellery and stumble across the french tickler or a particularly colourful bead but for the most part I have to say getting rid of it was that best thing for me to do.
If you get one makes sure you get plastic beads, they're life savers!!
