So my story starts out like everyone else. I have always wanted my tongue pierced but like most, my parents were not gonna allow it. So at 16 I got my belly button done and kind of forgot about the whole tongue thing. Then I moved out at 19 1/2 with my awesome roommate Sara, who took me in April to get my first tattoo. She had once got her tongue done but it got infected and took it out... anyway back to the story.
At A Glance Author Amy Contact moshie_@hotmail.com When It just happened Artist Pat Studio Artrageous Ink Location Green Bay I was drinking one night and told my boyfriend I wanted to get a new piercing. He was not excited at all. But I told him I wanted to get my tongue pierced and always had. I even tried to convince him by telling him to imagine how much he would enjoy me getting my tongue pierced. (wink wink)
He was worried it would get infected and I assured him I would be very careful. I searched on BME (like I did for my belly button) and was ready for any questions I would be asked. Even though I was getting it done anyway I would rather have my boyfriend with me then mad at me.
The following weekend I came by my boy in college and told him we were off to Artrageous Ink. He wasn't to pleased but seemed to be warming up to the idea. So Grant, Chad (his roommate), and I went to Main St.
After having a quick smoke and trying to remember what my tongue felt like I walked into the piercing place, which was very clean and proudly stated, "I want my tongue pierced." I had to go through the typical sign here and can I see your ID, and then the piercer went back to get everything set up.
I walked back to the room where I sat in a dentist looking chair and was told to stick out my tongue. I was then proudly told "Finally not a short tongue." I think that was a compliment, anywho. I had to then rinse my mouth out with listerine and spit back into the cup. After I did that Pat dried my tongue and marked a line down the center with purple ink. Pat then put the clamp on. Honestly it didn't hurt at all. He then made sure to tell me not to pull my tongue back in.
I then grabbed my boyfriends hand and closed my eyes!
Grant and Chad watched the whole thing and said it was the craziest thing they have ever seen.
I didn't really feel the needle, but I knew something was happening because I could feel pressure. The worst part was him putting the barbell in, just because there was a little tugging to get the needle out. The barbell was in and I could put my tongue back into my mouth, which I had no problems doing, and I again had to rinse my mouth with clean listerine and spit then I was good to go.
I immediatly stuck my tongue out at my boyfriend, and our friend.
I then paid the man and bought a new tongue ring to put in once the swelling went down which I was told whenever you feel comfortable enough that the swelling went down. Pat the piercer gave me my after care instructions and told me to call if I had any questions. I was to excited I really didn't here much of what he was saying, but good thing he gave me a written copy of aftercare instruction to follow.
At first my tongue felt fine but about 2 hours later I could feel it
getting fatter. And eating french fries was quite a chore. I could talk normal but noticed the barbell getting tighter on my tongue. I just drank my water and sucked on ice. That night sleeping was fine and when I woke up I could tell my tongue was still swollen, but really there wasn't any pain just still the tightness on the barbell.
I have had my piercing for about 28 hours and I love it. I have been eating semi-normal. Just taking smaller bites and keeping my mouthwash handy. My boyfriend actually doesn't really mind the piercing although my tongue is still a little swollen. He will love it eventually! My parents still don't know that I got my new piercing and will probably hate it but hey I did it for myself because I wanted to not because they said I could.
Anyone that is thinking about a tongue piercing, I say do it. It doesn't hurt and really isn't that hard to get used to. Any questions feel free to e-mail me although it may take me awhile to write back. Happy Piercing People!
