I have always secretly wanted to get my tongue pierced since about the age of thirteen. But as I got older and closer to that glorious age of eighteen, I noticed that a LOT of people were getting theirs pierced. Now, I am not one to do what the crowd is doing (other than my naval but that's another story) so I decided that I did not want a regular tongue piercing anymore. Then I was introduced to bmezine. I completely fell in love with the tongue web but always been a little freaked out to get it because it looks painful. Well, when visiting a friend in indy, we decided to get some new peircings. I decided on a whim that I would get my tongue web done. Once we got to the studio to get them done though, I completely chickened out and got a tragus instead (which I love).

Afterwards, I totally regretted not getting the tongue web done. I wanted to turn around and get the tongue web on our way back to her place, and I would have, but I did not have the money to afford it. I went back home the next day sad.

One month later, I went back to indy to visit my friend again. I told her that I absolutely HAD to get my tongue web done while I was there. Since she was debating on getting another piercing, she agreed that we would go that night once she got off work. While waiting for her to get off, I called artistic skin design (where I got my tragus done) to see how much the piercing cost. Thankfully, it was only $30 and my limit was $40. I was really going to get my tongue web!

When we drove to the studio that night, I started getting really nervous. I was afraid that it was going to hurt more than any other piercing I had, or worse, that I would not be able to get it because I have a small tongue web. When we got to the studio, I went in and told the guy what I wanted. He checked my tongue web and said that I could almost barely fit one in there (yay!). He checked my ID, I paid, and soon was in the chair. The guy who did the piercing was Jesse. He told me upfront that I was only the second one he would do and I had no problem with that. I have always enjoyed being the newbies "guinea pig", haha. First he had me wash my mouth out. Honestly, I think that stuff was worse than the piercing itself. It tasted soo horrible. I spit it out and laid in the chair. Jesse could see that I was shaking and asked if I was alright. My problem when I get nervous, is that I do shake a lot to the point where you would think that I'm about ready to go into shock. I told him that I was absolutely fine and to keep going. I opened my mouth and he put the clamps on my web. They didn't hurt at all! He made sure one more time that I was sure I wanted it. I shook my head yes. Breathe in, breathe out, breathe in, and in went the needle. I barely felt it! The only reason I knew it happened was because I saw the needle move. Now he put in the jewelry. That part did hurt a little bit. The worst part was the fact that I had to keep my tongue up for so long. Next he had to put the ball in to finish it off. This took forever and a day. He had to fix the size of the ring so many times. My tongue was shaking like crazy because I wanted to put it down so bad. When we finished, he told me the cleaning procedure (which I already knew) and gave me a pamphlet with the instructions in it. He took a picture for his portfolio and the studio's site and showed me off to everyone. Even the employees could not beleive I actually went through with it, seeing as I was so nervous before hand. It felt so incredibly cool to have this sma "\Ãw´ ll piece of metal underneath my tongue.

I absolutely loved all of my friend's reactions to it. I would yawn or something in class and everyone around me would start screaming "Oh my god! What is that in your mouth!?" It was great. My parents did not take too well to it. My dad tried to convince me that this particular piercing was sinful (he is very religious) and my mom would not even talk to me. My brother thought it was awesome. Really stupid, but awesome.

Today, I absolutely love my tongue web. I am constantly playing with it and cleaning it. It healed in less than a week and has been so easy to take care of. I was able to eat and talk that night with only a little pain the morning after getting it. It can get irritating sometimes though because if I forget to brush my teeth, white plaque will start to form around it and it is hard to get it off. If anyone is considering getting this piercing, I say go for it! It's different and easy to baby. It can be your own little secret.
