On Wednesday 25th February 2004, which is now yesterday afternoon, I got my tongue pierced in the center. I hadn't decided to get it done that day, I thought I could get it done tomorrow and skip a few periods from school, but my friend Jo was with me, I had the $80 and I just couldn't wait any longer.

I was calmer about my tongue piercing than I was with my ear lobes which was quite odd. When I got home I called up the Tattoo/Body shop and asked if I could get my tongue pierced. Turned out I could. So, Jo and I caught the train to the place and walked up the stairs. I didn't know what to expect about this. I knew it would be absolutely amazing but I didn't know how it would feel. I knew what to expect because I saw my friend Nikki get hers done just 6 days before.
Anyways, when I walked in the body piercer, Jason recognised me and knew that I was the one getting pierced. I paid him first so I knew there would be no chance I'd run away. He asked me to wait 10 minutes while he set everything up.
The time had come. I gave up all my fears and walked into that brown air-conditioned room with my friend.
I swished the mouthwash around my mouth twice and spat. I sat down and saw the needle and tube this with the bar to the side of it. The only time I made any sounds of pain was before it. I didn't know what to feel so I made a tiny squeak, but then I bit my tongue (no pun intended) and sat in the chair, lifted my head back, held Jo's hand and got the most amazing experience of my life.
First, Jason clamped my tongue. The clamp just looked like thicker, longer, silver tweezers with a diamond shaped hole at the beginning so the equipment could pass through my tongue. While my tongue was in the clamp thing, Jason picked up the needle and tube thing. It was a needle inside a cylinder like tube. He pushed it upwards from the bottom of my tongue and it made a tiny click, click, click sound – the kind when you get an immunisation needle or something. While the tube was in my mouth, the needle was pulled out and the bar was inserted downwards from the top of my tongue and bottom ball was screwed on.
There was no pain whatsoever!! The only feeling I felt was like a thin pulling on my tongue and I didn't even flinch at all. I was squeezing my friend's hand but only a little just for the sake of it. I could feel the needle, tube and bar being inserted in me but it honestly didn't hurt one little bit. After it was performed, I was told to put my tongue back in my mouth and swallow a bit. I was surprised I didn't drool at all. I only bled a little but that was because – well a needle had just passed through my tongue. I asked if my tongue was bleeding and Jason said only a little so he handed me a tissue to wipe it off which only took about ten seconds. He commented on how I could talk normally considering my friend Nikki had full drooled, bled, screamed, kicked and talked like a person with mental disabilities.
I was handed the mouthwash again and swished it around again and was a bit surprised that it didn't sting. I had a look in the mirror and it was absolutely perfect.
Jason told me about what I could eat and not eat and how to clean it and said I could come back in about 2 or 3 weeks to change the bar and check how it was going.
As soon as I left the shop I couldn't stop playing with it and it was so amazing I could move it up and down, lift it above my teeth and poke it all around my mouth on the outside and inside. And the eating thing was a pain though. I had to eat on the side and every time I swallowed I thought the bar had gone down with it but it was ok. I had cold stuff, mcdonalds and cookies. The cookies were the worst because they had crumbs everywhere and when I tried to get the food out from my gums with my tongue the bar was knocked about, stretched and pulled and it hurt.
It's only painful now because it's swollen up and a bit red. The tongue pierced area, the bottoms of my mouth and jaw have swollen up a bit but it's dying down. The only words I cant say are 66 cents and mathematics.
But it was 100% absolutely perfectly amazingly perfect!!! It is so worth it and I recommend if your thinking about getting it done, go for it. You will love it!
