Studio Avante Garde
For a few years I have always wanted a piercing other then my ears. Some people told me to get my belly button... but that wasn't for me. I finally decided to get my tongue pierced, but didn't know when I should go.

One Tuesday I woke up, and no one was home, I was bored, so I decided to check out exactly where Avante Garde was an how much they charge for tongue piercings. My tongue would be an even $36.00. Since I had some graduation money, I decided that I was getting my tongue pierced today. I went back to my house and ate dinner, then I called my cousin so she could come with for support, and also so I didn't chicken out.

We arrived at 4:00, and I payed and filled out papers. Finally, it was my turn at 5:00. When I first got in, I was completely nervous, but, after waiting an hour I was more anxious to just leave. The piercer took me to a back room, and my cousin came with to watch. he got all of his tools ready, clamped my tongue and told me to breathe in and then breathe out. The whole experience took 2 minutes. Plus, it didn't even hurt. That night I was talking a little funny but I was so excited I had the courage to get it done.

The next day I went to work. That is where my nightmare occurred. I was working with pepper and sneezed about 7 times in a row. During my sneezing, the barbell must have gotten temporarily caught in my teeth, because a few minutes later I started bleeding. I went to the bathroom and tried to clean it up a little bit, and it eventually stopped. I figured I didn't need to see my piercer.

Friday morning I woke up at 4:30 AM and found blood all over my pillow, I went to the bathroom and saw I was bleeding everywhere, and right over my piercing was some white stuff, it looked awful. I couldn't even see the barbell anymore. So, for an hour I was using listerine and water to try to stop the bleeding. I finally took some advil and went to to sleep. When I woke up, I stopped bleeding for awhile. I go dressed and drove over to see my piercer. He looked at it and told me it was nothing to bad and told me to buy some Gly-Oxide and put it on twice a day, once in the morning, and once at night. So, I went out and bought some right away. I continued to bleed all day though.

Saturday I went to work, and I was still bleeding, I did not think this was right, plus it looked as if a piece of my tongue was flapping over my bar bell... it was not the most attractive thing ever. So, me and a friend went back to see my piercer. When I got there, there was two women on the other side of the desk who asked to see my tongue, I showed them, and they said they never saw anything like that and were completely disgusted, then they called the piercer. My piercer took one look at my tongue and was also completely grossed out and said he never saw anything like that before, and told me to come into the back room. I followed, and he proceeded to rip off some blood clots from my tongue. Then told me I should be fine now, and that it shouldn't rip anymore. I never bled so bad in my life. My friend took pictures of my tongue and, it was just really nasty. I needed more listerine, so me and my friend went to the store to buy some. I met up with another friend, and he told me awhile ago I shouldn't get a piercing because something bad will happen... well, I got one big I told you so that day. He saw it and was more grossed out by it then I was.

My tongue lost that white filmy stuff over my piercing, but now I am left with a rip in the front of my piercing, I hope it eventually goes away, because it does not look the best. I go in to get my smaller bar bell in about a week and a half, and I am nervous about that because I don't want to be told that I'll need it stretched because the tear in my tongue is too big and won't heal.

Even though I went through all of this, I love my piercing, and if I had to take it out I would, but I would also get it redone as soon as I could because it is so awesome. I am just waiting to be able to eat normal foods again.
