At the age of 8 years old, my uncle walked through the front door with a beautiful tongue piercing. From that moment on, I knew I would just have to have one.

I would examine and read all the information I could on it, only to face the reality that my mother would never let me have it.
I finally made her so irritated that she said "whatever! Fine!" and I jumped with joy. We went to Angie, who had done other piercings for me, and she was happy to see me.
She helped me pick out the jewelry, they have a great selection, and I finally decided on a 14 gauge barbell with red acrylic beads. She took me into the piercing room, shut and locked the door. By this time, I was breathing heavier and a little nervous. She preceded to tell me healing times, how to deal with swelling, etc. Angie went back and got the right jewelry and came back, opened the prepackaged jewelry and asked me if I was ready.
She had me wash out my mouth with listerine for .. Oh I'd say 30 seconds or so. She told me to spit back out and I stuck my tongue out for her to mark and clamp. She examined my tongue and moved it up and down a couple times to see. She marked it, showed me. I thought it was perfect. I nodded, and she counted to three and pushed the needle through, top to bottom. I barely felt it. She put the jewelry on and woohoo, it was done! I jumped off the chair and looked in the mirror. My tongue was hurting a little bit on the bottom, but I was fine. I got in the car, and went home.
I couldn't eat anything, and stupid me didn't eat one thing the day of the piercing. I ended up taking it out that night, and I was really kicking myself the next day. Next morning I was missing it really bad, and ready to let someone go punch me. I had volunteers, believe me. I tried sticking the barbell back through, but no luck.
About a week later I just couldn't take it. I was missing it badly. I walked into Angie's about 5-10 minutes before it closed, because I got caught in traffic. She gladly brought me to the room and pierced me again after having my barbell and 1 of the balls autoclaved. I had bought another ball, purple with a white stripe and I had it on top.
Instead of piercing it top to bottom, she pierced bottom up this time, which I thought was better and I had no pain afterwards.
Eating:
Day of the piercing- Muffin + soda
Day 2- Fries + chicken nuggets (worst day, hard to swallow)
Day 3- Salad with chicken and oranges,
Day 4- Swellings 95% down
Day 5- 95% down
day 6- Down completely
The second time I got it pierced felt a lot better, and I'm so happy I got my tongue pierced again. Since we pierced through scar tissue, there was white stuff that would be on my tongue in the morning but I just brush it off with a toothbrush like a normal person that would brush their tongue. I tipped Angie like $15 dollars because she was so nice. I thought that was enough, and I continue to go in there and see her. Angie was even so nice and didn't charge me for the piercing (just the ball, which was like $5 or something) because I came there often. If you want a tongue piercing, I seriously recommend it. I couldn't wait to show people and buy new jewelry for it. I love my tongue piercing, it's my favorite :D I have already went shopping for balls (boy that just doesn't sound right ha) and other things like that.
It's definitely my favorite body mod. Some answers/opinions to some popular questions:
"Does it hurt more than biting your tongue,"- Nope, it hurts way less.
"Does it swell bad,"- I personally didn't think so. It didn't even swell up to 2x normal size
Any more questions you can email me at ioserjenni@aol.com! This piercing is the best. The initial piercing doesn't even hurt. The swelling hurts a little, and when it swelled it pressed up against the top ball a little and was kinda icky looking, but not anymore!
If you are in the Colorado springs area, I would definitely recommend Pikes Peak tattoo and piercing #2 (www.tattooing-piercing.com). They are safe, clean, professionals, and out of my 6 visits there, I have never left disappointed. They really are the best piercers. I cant wait to get my next piercing, a vertical labret, some henna tattoos and eventually a real tattoo!
