Ok I had wanted to get my tongue pierced for almost three years now, but my mom wouldn't take me or sign for me so I just had to wait it out until I finally turned 18. Well, that was a week ago on Wednesday. I had planed on getting it done on my birthday for about 2 months now. I ate dinner, then my boyfriend came and picked my up and we headed down to the piercing studio.

He had me sit out in the lobby while he prepped the room and got ready for me. He finally came back out and asked me to come on back. I got up and my boyfriend followed behind me, but he was asked to sit back down and wait for me out in the lobby.
At this point I was starting to get nervous, and now I didn't have anyone in the room except for Jake and me. I tried to plea with Jake so that my boyfriend could come back to watch and hold my hand, but Jake told me no, that I was against regulations. I started to take deep breaths to calm myself down. I wasn't worried about how much it would hurt just for the fact that everyone that I know that has it done says that it doesn't hurt to get it done. I was just kind of scared to be getting it done by myself.
So I was sitting back in the dentist like chair and Jake is marking my tongue and taking everything out of its packaging and is walking me through it step by step. He put a cloth thing across my chest so that drool wouldn't get all over him or me. He handed me a cup of mouthwash and I had to swish for a minute. I then stuck out my tongue and he dried my tongue and clamped it. He told me to take a deep breath in and when I left it out he pushed the needle right through. He then put in the barbell and asked me over and over if I was ok, which I was. He then had me swish with the mouthwash once again.
We then walked out into the lobby where my boyfriend was sitting and waiting for me. Jake went over all the after care and suggested that I get biotene to wash my mouth out with. After I paid Jake me and my boyfriend went up to Walgreen's and got me some ice water and we got my biotene. When we got back to his house I started to suck on ice, but that seemed to cause it more pain so I stopped.
We left his house around 10pm and went back to my house. My mom wouldn't talk to me about it at all. She was very upset that I didn't and didn't want any part of it. She eventually started to talk to me again but she didn't want to see it at all. She now makes fun of the way I talk, and how I slurp my spit so that I don't drool on myself.
Now I'm not going to lie, yes I think it hurt, but not tearing up pain just a sharp pain that didn't end as soon as it came. It was the worst piercing pain wise that I have gotten so far. And I have gotten three so far in my ears and I have my navel pierced as well.
I didn't swell much so I didn't have much pain afterwards; I just couldn't chew or eat anything for a few days. I've now had it for a week and so far no problems, the only thing that bugs me is that the barbell is so long, but in time I will be able to change it. I still am talking kind of funny, but I think that it will go away as soon as I change my bar.
I had called down at the studio a few days ago and talked to Jake and asked him if it would be possible to come down and pick out a new barbell and have a shorter one put in earlier than six weeks due to the fact that my barbell is so long it is continuously hit my front bottom teeth when I talk, and my teeth are really starting to hurt. He said that he didn't recommend that I do that, but I changed it myself two days ago. I haven't had any problems at all after I changed it.
Over all I had a good experience with getting it done. It didn't hurt to bad and now I have something to play with when I get bored in class.
