Well I've wanted my tongue pierced for years. But for some reason or another it never seemed to be the right time. Yesterday I found myself with enough money to do it and no reason not to. I called a couple of studios near me and the last one I called was Enchanted Dragon. The studio was about 40 minutes from my house and the person answering the phone sounded really nice. Well they quoted a price of $45 including the barbell and no appointment was needed. So off we went! I had my brother and his girlfriend and my daughter along for moral support.

I almost chickened out as we pulled into the parking lot. But my brother grabbed my hand and pulled me inside. The moment we walked in the door I knew this would be a positive experience for me. The studio was huge and the walls were covered with beautiful flash art. It was also nice and roomy. The owner greeted us right away and so did Beckey. It turned out she was the one who was going to pierce me. I liked her right away. So I showed my id and signed a waiver and waited as she got things ready. I walked around and looked at the walls for a few minutes. I was dreaming of tattoos to come but that's another story.

Beckey let me know she was ready and since by now I just wanted to get it over with, I followed her right away. She had me sit up on this black table that put me at a nice height for her to pierce my tongue. I told her I was nervous and showed her that my hands were shaking. She smiled and asked why I wanted the piercing. I replied that I thought it was really cute and something I had wanted for some time. She thought that was a good reason. Ok so now I had to swish some Listerine gold around in my mouth for a few minutes. It wasn't too bad and it made my mouth a little numb. By now Beckey had her gloves on and was ready to go. She warned me that the clamps she was gonna use to hold my tongue would be the worse part. So I stuck my tongue out and she grabbed ahold of it. After a minute of getting it just right she asked me to take a deep breath. I did and she said ok, let it out. As I exhaled she pierced my tongue. I had my eyes closed so I never saw the needle thank God. S he said ok, you're pierced! Now I'm just gonna slide in you're jewelry and you're done. It wasn't bad at all. I barely felt a thing, just a small pinch. The worst part was the clamps and the very odd feeling of this metal thing in my mouth. I'm still not used to that yet a day later. So as soon as I got my balance back I stood up, and thanked Beckey. She went over some care instructions with me. I paid and tipped her and out I walked with my tongue pierced! I felt pretty brave actually. I saw 2 guys watching me as I got pierced and they looked sort of queasy.

In the hours following my piercing I ate about 10 cherry popsicles and drank probably 15 glasses of ice water. I had soup and mashed potatoes for dinner. That was an adventure all it's own! It's pretty hard to eat still. Today is a bit worse than yesterday. I can barely talk and it hurts when I do. And I am so hungry! When I woke up this morning it was at it's worst. It was very swollen and dry. The worst part has been not being able to talk much. I'm a very talkative person so this is torture for me! So I'm curious now what day number 3 will bring and I am looking forward to being healed in 2 weeks. I cant wait to change my jewelry, I already have a new barbell ready. So far this has been better than I even dreamed it would be and I'd recommend it to anyone. I was so scared but now that I did it, it's awesome!

My advice would be to do some reading up on it first and talk to as many people as possible who have gone through it before you go. I did that and knowing what to expect helped alot. Also make sure you eat a big meal before you go! I did and I was still starving hours later. I also hope the person who pierces you is as cool as mine was. I think it would have been alot scarier if she hadn't been so cool and able to put me at ease.
