Hey guys/gals, this is the story of how I got my tongue pierced, and what happened afterwards.

It was a regular Thursday thus working day for me, but after work, I had planned to finally have my tongue pierced after all those years of just not having the guts. My sister picked my girlfriend and me up at my place, and we went straight to Piercing Pro (Enschede, the Netherlands). It was about a 40-minute drive, and both girls were trying to get on my nerves, quite successful I might add, but I tried not to let them notice. I was so damned nervous, I smoked 3 cigarettes in the car, and brushed my teeth before we had parked the car. We still had to walk for about five minutes, five very long minutes.

We finally arrived at the piercing shop, and we were the only customers there. The lady that was going to do my piercing (i forgot her name) came to us, and asked if there was anything she could help my sister with, since she recognized my sister from her belly button piercing. Then I said I was the one who needed help this time, and explained I wanted a tongue piercing.

The lady took us into the actual piercing room and explained exactly what was going to happen. I sat down into the dentist chair, and there she came with some piercings I could choose from, I chose a kind of regular though slightly oversized barbell. She came with the pliers and needle, asked me to take a nice deep breath and exhale. I don't exactly remember at what point she pushed the needle through, because I didn't even feel it until it was completely through. She asked me to hold the pliers for a second while she went and got the piercing. Just a couple of seconds later the piercing was attached right on top of the needle, and pulled back down through my tongue. I remember a very weird sensation going through me right at that time, it was far from pain, I think it was more like a sour piece of candy had suddenly exploded in my mouth, and left me instantly drooling. The bottom ball was tightly screwed on, and I was done! all in all piercing the tongue took about 5 minute s.

Okay, I know it was probably a bad idea, but despite of all the warnings I got, I just had to kiss my girlfriend right as we stepped outside the shop, which obviously wasn't a huge success.

We decided to go to my parents and shock up my mother a bit with my new acquisition. Turns out, my little brother was home alone, Dad at work, Mum at the neighbors. I wanted to go there, but I had to eat something, I hadn't eaten all day and it was around dinner time so I had a nice cheese/cucumber sandwich that took me almost half an hour to eat (another thing I was warned against, solid food). Finally as my mother was still at the neighbors we walked on over, and my mother answered the door as she'd seen us coming. As she opened the door, I stuck out my tongue and said "BOO!" my mother was really in shock, she always knew I wanted the piercing, but I don't think she ever expected to see me with one. But she accepted it as I knew she would, and after a couple of hours, I went back home, I had to work the next day.

That Friday evening after work (yes, just one day later), I was going to the pub with a bunch of friends as I usually did on Friday. I did the third thing on the "forbidden-list" I got totally wasted!

Now, I've had the piercing for about a year and a half, and I've never had any pain, I've taken it out in the disco, woke up next morning and been able to put it back in without any trouble. Of course I would never recommend taking the piercing out to anyone else for other purposes than cleaning it. I take it out all the time, I still have trouble when eating every once in a while (read very rarely when not paying attention to the food at all), biting down on the piercing, and I really don't want to break any teeth, so I take it out when I eat sometimes. While I eat, The piercing sits in a special pocket in my wallet. When I'm done eating, I just clean the piercing by putting it in my mouth together with some antiseptic-mouthwash, and stick it right through the tongue. It always fits right back in like it's never been gone. I guess I'm just lucky that way.

Turned out, me being nervous was good for nothing (hence the title). I broke some golden rules, and it didn't seem to make any difference. I'm still kind of religious about keeping the piercing clean, and I can only advise others to do the same, even if it was only because a clean and shiny piercing is a more likely to be a happy piercing.

Well, that's my story for now, I might check back later with new piercing stories, as I get them. (I'm designing my own right now)
