I am going to tell you about my tongue piercing and the build up to it. This story is for all of you sat out there like I used to thinking should I, should I not! And the answer I think to your question should be:

I have wanted my tongue pierced since i first saw it on TV when i was about 13, there must be a thing about the age 13 cause that is when people start to want the get things like piercing and tattoo's.
Well I though one day I'm going to get it done, iv already got 8 other piercing's, 7 in my ears and my belly button (which is another story all together with me being a lad and getting a serious ripping for having it done but it does look very cool). I have been a good boy and asked my mum about every one of my piercing before I got them and she would often say yes straight away or with a little argument about ill try harder at school if she let me get it done! So one day I just asked her
"Mum can i have my tongue pierced"
And she said
"NO"
So I began to argue how safe it is, but she still said no. I tried for days and days but she kept on saying no, there was no changing her mind but mine was set, I was going to get it done anyway.
So a couple of days later I left college early and set of to my usual pierces to get it done. But I had a plan, after reading many of the articles on this web site and talking to the pierce I though that I would be able to hide it from my mum by doing a couple of things, first I got a pink titanium bar put in it which is not advised but can be done so that it was not as visible I also decided that i would get it pierced further back on my tongue to try and hide it a bit more.
So I got to the piercer and I paid my money, I was more nervous than I have ever been before a piercing. I had to wait half an hour well I had my pink bar sterilised then George went though all of the details about what he would do and then he checked my tongue for veins and even said I had a perfect tongue to pierce cause of how thin it is. Then we did it. Firstly the clamp went on, which does not hurt as much as I though it would. Then George told me to take a deep breath, I felt a slight prick on the bottom of my tongue and before I new it I saw the needle appear between my eyes, it was done!! Next George simply put the bar in and it all over, not quite!
I had been so nervous, excited all day I had hardly eaten and so the second I went to get up, down I went! George said it would be because of my low blood sugar level so a can of ice-cold coke later and I was fine, so my first piece of advice is to make sure you get a good meal in you before hand.
So off I headed, back home. i sat on the train talking to myself to see if it was noticeable and i didn't think it was, it didn't even seem to have swelled like they said it would. Well i got home and lets just say it took my mum all of ooooow 30 seconds to spot that i had it done and she was not a happy chappy i can tell you. But she let me keep it in, I think she saw how much pain I was in, so didn't want it to all be for nothing. It hurt for a about a week and it doubled in size, but ice cream and ice cube's are a god send.
After a month I had the bar change down to a shorter silver one so that I can show it off to everyone. It is fantastic, it has no effect on my speech anymore and I love nothing more than to play with it and the look on people's faces when they see that it actually goes though my tongue is brilliant. Plus my girl friend liked it if you get what I mean!
But I will just finish by saying, that no matter how hard you try your mum and dad will find out, my mum even said she new I was going to get it done when I left the house in the morning cause I had made my bed, which I never do! They will moan but it's cause they love you and don't want anything bad to happen, but I guess most would grow to love it, or at least tolerate it like mine did.
But in the end it's up to you!
