My boyfriend Brad and I had been talking about getting our tongues pierced for awhile, but Brad found out he probably couldn't get his pierced because his tongue is attached nearly completely. He was told he could probably get it snipped by an orthodontist or something but it seemed pretty ridiculous to spend that much money just to get his tongue pierced. So we decided that I would still get mine done since I have a serious Gene Simmons tongue going on, and he would get another tattoo instead because you can never have enough tattooes.
At A Glance Author Nutmeg Contact Nutmeg@bme.anon When A week ago Artist Kirk Studio Juki's Location Toledo We went to Juki's which is where I have gotten all my tattooes and piercings and where Brad got his labret pierced and about half his tattoes. I first went there because my friend Liz recommended it since she got her belly pierced and her tattoo there. It's a really nice place and it's sterile and everyone is really friendly. Also they know us pretty well since we've been there so many times so they'll usually be pretty negotiable on pricing.
We didn't get there til around 10:30 because we had moving all day into our new apartment. We had been debating whether or not to go for awhile when we finally left because we were already pretty much exhausted but we figured we might as well. Brad's sister Amber came with us since she had been helping us move and we also brought my college roommate Rochell because she had been wanting to get a tattoo. First Brad got his tattoo done which turned out really nice and then my roommate started getting hers. She was freaking out pretty bad at first since it was her first one and she didn't really know what to expect. Brad kept saying that he thought she was going to pass out before they even started but she did pretty well and calmed down a lot after the outline. We were pretty much standing around then until Kirk said it was time for my tongue. We had to wait for some guy to get an industrial done first and then we had to wait for his girlfriend to get HER tongue pierced. Finally it was my turn.
I was kind of nervous even though I've seen plenty of other people get their tongues pierced before. However, I wasn't too jumpy so it went pretty quick. First I swished Listerene for what seemed like eternity. After that my tongue was pretty much numb and the tongs were on pretty tight so I didn't even feel the needle go through. I could tell when it happened though because Brad and his sister both gasped and said "sick!" Then Kirk got the barbell through and screwed on the top ball really fast. He then asked me to say words like "birth certificate" much to the amusement of everyone else. He told me to eat every few hours and drink a lot of water and to swish with Listerene often. I bought Amber a barbell for her belly piercing so that we all got something out of the trip. Then we dropped off my roommate and went to Kroger and back to our apartment to get some sleep since it was about 3:00 in the morning by then and I had class the next day.
My tongue didn't swell too much but I still talk funny because the piercing is really far forward and the barbell is so big that my tongue can't reach my teeth so I can't pronounce the s sound properly. However, I think all I need is a shorter barbell to remedy this. I think a shorter barbell would make eating easier too because I almost bite the stupid ball every time I chew something. Eating was probably the worst thing at first, especially because I couldn't be to choosy about food seeing as how we just moved and didn't have much of a variety. So I just looked like a moron taking forever to eat and shoving it far back in my mouth. It doesn't hurt anymore and I'm starting to get used to it. The first night I was about ready to rip the damn thing out of my mouth, but Brad persuaded me to try it out. I think my only real complaint would have to be the excessive length of the barbell because it makes it very uncomfortable and it makes me sleep with my mouth open, causi ng me to drool excessively all over the pillow, as well as wake up with a sore throat the next morning.
All in all I'm very satisfied w/ the piercing so far, and Kirk said I could probably get three piercings on my tongue easily so I think I'll probably get it done at least once more so I feel a little less trendy.
