This starts like every other piercing I have ever gotten. I have had both sides of my eyebrows pierced and I have had both sides of my lips pierced but I never thought I would want my tongue pierced. It looked too painful for me to handle but I decided to suck it up and get it done! I arrived at the tattoo club around 4:00 p.m. on a Saturday. The girl who has always pierced me was already with someone and told me to wait on the couch. I sat there for about fifteen minutes before she came out with the form for me to fill out. She told me to read it completely and fill in all the places she did not mark out. While I filled out the form in the waiting area she went into the back room and got all the supplies ready. After I finished she came out and checked my licenses to make sure I was eighteen and then she told me to come to the back with her.

I was really, really nervous because this was the first time I ever came alone to get anything pierced. My mom or dad always came along. I sat down on the bench and she sat beside me and began to explain how it would be done and what not to do and what to do after I get my tongue pierced. To clean it she told me to brush my teeth carefully and to swish with Listerine and rinse out my mouth with distilled water. She also told me I should do the following: avoid spicy and salty foods for a while, to avoid alcohol, to avoid a lot kissing, to avoid oral sex, and to mostly definitely avoid playing with my tongue a lot. No matter how much I wanted to I needed to not play with it so it would heal properly and not tear.

After that she laid all of the supplies on the table next to us: A cup, Listerine, the clamps, the needle, a pen, a paper bib, and the gloves. First she put the paper bib around my neck then handed me the cup filled with Listerine and told me swish that for thirty seconds. She put on the gloves while I did this. After I was finished she had me spit it back into the cup and she set it off to the side. She told me to stick out my tongue and then she checked under it for a vein down the middle I suppose. Next she got the pen and made a mark down the center of my tongue near the front more than the back. She got the clamp and put it over the dot and wrapped a rubber band around the handles to keep it closed.

I am completely and totally finicky about needles so she told me to close my eyes while she did the actually piercing. By now my stomach felt like a thousand butterflies were going off in it. I held on tightly to the edge of the bench while I heard her unwrapping the needle. I felt her come back over to me and she said that we would do it the same way as the other piercings. On two I would breath in through my mouth and then breath out through my nose on three. On three is when she would push the needle though my tongue.

She counted off: "One, Two", Breathe in my mouth, "Three" Out my nose. This is where she pushed the needle in and I started to squirm. It was not really anything at all though. The needle felt strange going through but it did not really hurt at all. I real woozy afterwards and she had me lay down for a few minutes and got me some water to sip on. After a few minutes I was better.

It bled some but not as much as I figured it would. My tongue swelled up not long after that. All my piercings have swelled up immediately after. She told me to drink a lot of cold distilled water or maybe a slushy to help the swelling but to always clean it afterwards.

I went home and went to bed really early. When I woke up in the morning my tongue had totally swollen up and it was really difficult for me to talk. My mom had bought a lot of pudding, soup and cold foods for me to eat. I ate a lot of pudding that first day. I drank a lot of cold fluids and iced it down and the swelling when down a lot. For the first week I had a bad lisp. I already slur my words but now no one could understand me! It was irritating for a while but eventually I got that under control. My tongue has healed up real nice and I am still glad I got it no matter how much trouble it caused me! :)
