Well, I've was thinking about getting my tongue pierced forever but my parents said that I could not. And finally the perfect opportunity had come for me to get it pierced. Finals. Now, I know you're probably thinking finals? What does that have to do with anything? Well, my senior year *I was 19 at the time* I had taken a class the last sememster called "Video Production", and for the final my teacher said we could pick the assignment. I decided it would be awesome if I could have someone in my class tape me getting my tongue pierced. My friend and I went up to my teacher and asked him if we could do the project and at first he was skeptical. But, after a lot of begging he decided to let me go through with it.

We drove the 45 minutes down to Brick *Southern New Jersey* and I told Fred *the piercer* that I wanted to get my tongue pierced. He said great. I also said "I'm doing this for a project for school, and I have some papers signed by my teacher which say that this is for a project. Would it be a problem if we taped it." He said nope not at all.
Fred led me into this back room of the studio and got all the materials ready for him to pierce my tongue. I was sitting in a dentist type of chair and the whole time I kept saying "I hate needles. I hate needles. Don't let me see the needle. Why am I doing this? Am I crazy." *I say that about every piercing I get. I did the same thing when I got my belly button pierced the 3 times I had it done because it kept closing.*
Fred he told me to rinse my mouth out with listerine for 30 seconds. That part was fine. Then he told me to sit still for a few seconds so he could mark the spot where he was going to put the needle through. He said look at it and make sure that it's in the right spot and you like it. I said it looked good to me. I asked my friend who was taping to check it just because I couldn't think straight and it could have been crocked as anything and I wouldn't have noticed. He said it was fine.
Next came the clamp. Most people say that the clamp is the worst part *if anything hurts it probaly is the pressure from the clamp*. The clamp didn't bother me. All it is, is a pair of sisors with out the point and a rubber band to keep it still. It put very minimumal pressure on my toungue. By this point I was shaking like you have never seen.
Then came the needle *AHHHHHHHHH* Fred said something to me "Almost done Karyn. Almost done. Are you ok?......" 2 seconds later he goes "Done" I said "What?" The whole procedure took all about 30 seconds to do and it DID NOT HURT AT ALL. I was expecting to feel a little prick from the needle going onto my tongue. But I felt NOTHING. Beleive me I HATE NEEDLES and I would tell you if it hurt me. Fred told me to sit down for a few minutes just to make sure that I don't pass out or anything.
Then he told me how to take care of it, I don't think I was paying too much attention (good thing he gave me literature to read). He told me to try to not to talk a lot and not to play or touch it and make sure that I cleaned it at least twice a day.
That night it was ok, it hurt a little. I went out with a bunch of friends and they went to McDonalds and it took me like 20 minutes to eat a french fry. I expected it would hurt a lot more then it did.
The next morning when I woke up my whole tongue had swelled up really bad. When they pierce it they use like a inch and a half bar ball, and now I understood why they did so. For the next week or so I only ate Snack Pack pudding, some soup and Ice. They say ice helps the swelling. The only thing I had to really do with it was wash my mouth out several times with Listerine. I work in retail and I had a little trouble talking for a few days, but I just talked really slow. I had a bad lisp.
Now it's almost a month that I got my tongue pierced and I am so happy that I did it. I changed the barbell to a slight smaller one because the swelling went down and the long barbell was annoying me. It took me a little less then a week to get used to talking with the bar bell in my mouth. I am so happy that I decided to get my tongue pierced and I will never let anyone tell me that it is gross. My parents found out the next day that I did it and were mad but I used the tattoo line "Well, at least it's not a tattoo and if I don't like it in a few years I can always just take it out." Works everytime..
Good luck to you all. If you have any questions feel free to e-mail me.
