I´m an twenty year old student boy from Northern Germany. My parents are very old fashioned, and my dad is totally against piercing. I really don't see why though. I have wanted my tongue pierced for a long time since I was 18. I had no other piercings and one tattoo. I decided that this was the week to get pierced. I made an appointment with a piercer in Hamburg. My girlfriend didnt want me to get it done in the first place so she didnt come with me.

I could hear the buzz of a tattoo gun in the background. We went into the back room and he explained for about 10 or 15 minutes about the procedure and the aftercare andthe procedure and the risks. I asked the piercer if I could drink alcohol after getting it pierced. I was feeling okay wasn't really feeling nervis watching him prepare the clamp. Seeing the white gloves and needle made me want to pass out. Then he numbed it with some spray which I had to hold in my mouth for about a few minutes That was the worst part. Then he made me rinse with listerine and he wiped off the tongue and then he marked it and asked if I was ready. I told him I was.I wasn't nervous at all because I had talked to so many people who had said it was the most painless piercing they've had. I closed my eyes and I felt the needle going through the bottom or come out the top but I felt it when it went through the middle, but it wasn't painful at all. I rinsed my mouth about 3 or 4 times with the water that was provided and then stood up and took a look at my new tongue.
He told me to keep ice in my mouth constantly that night when I went home and the next day, because it would help keep the swelling down and it would make it feel better. He said not to be sticking my tongue in and out tonight.I took some advil too and that made the swelling go down a lot. I didn't have a lot of swelling to begin with, but it quickly went down. Ì paid 100 DM and went home.
The next day when I returned to work there was only one person that noticed the piercing and that was only because she had hers pierced and was now glad she was not the only one at work with it done. I was worried at work since I interact and meet new people every day. But if anyone did notice they did not show any signs of it.
I've been drinking alcohol every now and then as well, and altho it didnt burn or sting at the time, it seemed to swell my tongue by the end of the evening. There has also been snot-like gunk coming from the hole (altho not green!) which I have been cleaning off with a clean cotton bud dipped in mouthwash.
The swelling was very minimal, which meant I could see the lump around the bottom bead, and if I poked it with a cotton bud, it felt quite hard and a bit tender but not mega sore. I'm hoping this isnt an infection! I dont wanna take it out!
By Day 6, more of the bar was showing through my tongue, and it was starting to get in the way alot more! But I visited my piercer on Day 7 and he told me that it still hadnt gone down enough to downsize, and to wait another week! Eating is still a little awkward but much easier I've lost 2 kilo since getting it done! But I wont lose any more weight as I'm eating more than I was in the first few days.
My tongue is much easier to move around now, so I can show my new addition and enjoy the reactions. By Day 18, everything was feeling fine and dandy, so I reduced the amount of times I rinsed. I went out in the evening for some Chinese Food and a few drinks, and what with the drinking, the eating and the excess talking, my tongue felt really tender the next day. The lump was more prominent as well.
My family noticed that I got it pierced close to 2 weeks after I had it and they wanted it out straight away. I loved the piercing too much to just get rid of it so I decided to keep it out in front of them and every hour putting it in to make sure the hole doesn't close up until I got a clear barbell to wear at home.
I seriously recommend a tongue piercing to anyone They feel great, they look awesome in my opinion and it's fun to freak people out with.
I am also seriously considering getting my lip pierced as well, because I have always liked the way it looked. There are so many piercings that I want to try out. I feel that piercing is a good, valid form of self expression and its a lot better then getting a tattoo because its not as permanent. One thing that I will suggest is remember to check out the piercing shop beforehand remember it is your body and since piercing is hardly regulated any idiot with a needle can pierce you.Anyways, thats my story
