After months and months of trying to convince my mother to let get my tongue pierced, she agreed. But only on the condition that I get no more tattoos until I am 23 and a half (compromise). She never said anything about not getting any more piercings though J which will leave me groveling at her feet for the next year to see if she'll allow me to get my nipples done. October 15, 2000. The day I decided my tongue was going to be pierced whether it liked it or not! I had the money in my pocket, the mouthwash in my bag, and various forms of liquidy food, which I already knew I would need thanks to research.I had an idea as to which piercing place I wanted to go to. Naturally, it being a Saturday night, the place was closed. That left me stuck with the only piercing place open called Agitprop, in downtown Ottawa. Have you ever had your heart set on getting a piercing or tattoo and then you find out it wont be possible that day for whatever reason? It drives you insane!! I didn't really want to go to Agitprop because I had wanted a female to pierce my tongue because we are naturally a gentler species, but "The Vilenesses" (she's on bme-look her up) shop was unfortunately closed. Because I wanted to get it done that day so very badly, I went to Agitprop, against my wishes and talked to the piercer, Pete. He's an awesome guy and he had previously pierced me. But like I said I was uneasy about him doing it because my mind had already been assured that a female would be doing it. After talking to Pete about aftercare and whatnot, I still wasn't sure about it so my friend and I went to subway to eat, which turned out to be my last solid meal for a while. We went back to Agitprop and waited in line for my turn. I had never been so damn nervous in my entire life! I had to pee, I had to throw up, I had to do something!!! Instead I waited in agony because I was too nervous to do anything.MY TURN: I nervously crawled into the dentists chair feeling very proud of myself that I had gotten this far and I also felt very happy it was my turn in the chair because my friend Victoria had been in that spot millions of times. Now it was MY turn!! I was handed a paper towel to dry my tongue with so I wouldn't drooled all over Pete. Well at least that's what he told me it was for. Then he had me chose a barbell from his pretty little collection. He then told me to breathe and asked if I was really ready for this. I knew I was but my body just wasn't showing it. I don't remember exactly every little thing after that in order, but I know I was told to stick out my tongue. I had a pair of forceps hanging off of it when I opened my eyes. I quickly closed them again. Then I felt it! The Needle."You're done"That's it? I couldn't believe it! To tell you the truth, I was actually a bit disappointed! I was expecting a lot more pain then that. The actual piercing didn't hurt all that much! All that freaking out for nothing!

I felt like such a baby for worrying all that time. It felt soooo cool inside my mouth!! I jumped up and gave Pete the biggest hug. I was so happy I had gone through with it and that it didn't hurt too much.Victoria and I left the shop and went straight to second cup for some nice hot tea, which was so very soothing and wonderful. I also asked them for a little baggie of ice. So there I am. Walking down the sidewalk of Rideau Street with my little cup of tea in one hand, my little baggie of ice the other, and a huge smile plastered on my face. I probably looked like a total idiot but I didn't care. That night sucked. My tongue decided to swell to twice its regular size making it hurt a hell of a lot. The ice seemed to make it worse but the tea helped. I went to bed early so I wouldn't have to feel the pain anymore.

The next days were a bit uncomfortable overall. It hurt so much that I wanted to take it out. Then I found the secret to keeping the swelling down and the pain away. MIDOL! When girls get cramps, it is caused by a little blood vessel that's swells and throbs. Taking Midol calms the swelling and takes the pain away, right girls? Apparently if anything else in your body is swelling, Midol helps that too. SO, if you're having problems with your tongue piercing due to swelling and pain, TRY MIDOL!!!! It didn't take long to heal and overall, I didn't have any problems except for the swelling. No infections! Yay! Guys, I'm not too sure about the Midol for you. Ask mommy first!
