BETTER THAN I COULD HAVE HOPED! |
| ||||||||||||||||
Well being a frustrated group of uni students, who decided that having an exam on a Saturday morning, at 8:30am was not such a good idea; we thought we would celebrate by heading out on a piercing and relaxation day. There were four of us on this little journey of life. 2 lovely young lasses who ended up with Navel Piercings, and my young male friend who got his cartilage pierced. I myself got my tongue pierced.
This is my 13th piercing, though at present I wear 10. It is my 6th piercing with a needle, and has been by far was the most pain free, and unproblematic, both during and after piercing.
My experience occurred 9 days ago, so I will try and give a blow-by-blow account.
I went last in the piercing queue after holding all my friends hands while they got there various piercings done. Each one was nervous, but all survived. Standing there watching the needles pass in and out of there bodies I became increasingly nervous, which is rather odd for me. But I could tell I would get an extreme rush.
Just before my turn the piercer (I am sorry I have forgotten your name) took a short break, changed his gloves, showed me the packet with a new, fully sealed needle inside. He asked me if I was a drooler, I had to say YES I am. But that is a part of life. I will get to the point.
I rinsed for a minute with Listerine, while the 3 of my friends looked on laughing at the faces I made of disgust... I am not a fan of mint. The piercer also asked if his friend could watch. I felt more than comfortable with this, as he had given me advice on the piercing 5 minutes beforehand and seemed to be a rather funny person. He had me laughing and I sprayed Listerine EVERYWHERE!
Twas rather funny, and you really DIDN'T want to be there! =)
I then stuck out my tongue and the piercer dried it off with some tissues, and then clamped my tongue. Clamps do look rather intimidating to those that have never seen them, but really are quite fine. This did not hurt but did involve an odd pressure sensation. He used a metal rod (which he had just taken out of the autoclave) and marked the top of my tongue. He then pulled on my tongue and moved the clamps around until he was happy, and then he marked the bottom. My request was to have it put on an angle, as I am aware that I have an unusually large and fairly far forward tongue web. And this he did! Once again I will thank my wonderful piercer.
I then SHUT MY EYES! When I opened them wondering when he was going to start I had a needle thru my tongue and he was unhooking the clamps. The needle is has a hollow tip, which the bottom of the ring was inserted into and with a gentle tugging motion he pulled out and the needle and at the same time the bar was inserted. (I have a 3/4 inch 14' gauge barbell with small balls). He screwed on the bottom ball, and tightened the top one, wiped up my drool (this didn't occur when piercing but when he stuck his fingers in my mouth to tighten the balls), and off I went.
It was a very strange sensation trying to initially figure out what was the top and bottom of the bar and how to get it into my mouth after the clamps had been released.
I paid my money ($AUD 100) and walked down to hungry jacks to get a cup of ice. I RECCOMEND THIS STRONGLY!
We then all went our separate ways to meet up later in the evening for a video night.
I spent the rest of the afternoon sucking ice, having a snooze, getting used to the tickling sensation on the roof of my mouth and having my car broken into. Talking to the police 3 hours I had my tongue pierced was an experience. They thought it was nice though!
That night we watched videos (no talking), and I ate mashed potatoes and baby chocolate custard (YUK stick with yogo).
The next morning the hole wasn't swelled up much but where the clamp had been was rather irritated. I ate baby food apple mush and icecream for breakfast. I talked a lot this day, and paid for it that night by having a huge tongue. I also ate a lot of ice, and rinsed with diluted mouthwash after any food, and full strength when I washed my teeth.
By day 3 no lisp, and I was eating again. Chicken chopped up small and noodles for breakfast, but by dinner anything really.
Was a wonderful feeling.
By day 4 I had white secretion coming out but this is 'normal', and a white fuzzy tongue. So in the morning I rinsed with salt water, during the day once dilute mouthwash, other times I ate just water swished around well, and at night mouthwash. This seemed to work.... and I recommend the salt water for healing.
Carry a little drink bottle of mouth wash around with you and another one to spit into, makes life much more convenient.
I have only had people saying good things about my tongue. 9 days later I can't stop playing with it, though nobody that I haven't told has noticed. Nobody at my work noticed, and I have had 4 shifts since having had it done. And my brother didn't even notice until I told his girlfriend.
That is my story I recommend the piercing highly. Much easy healing than any of my other.
Write me with queries, while it is still fresh in my mind.
