I wanted my tragus done for awhile. My mom had a hard time letting me get my cartilige done (she took me to Claire's to get it done...such a bad idea. It got infected multiple times) so I knew she wouldn't let me get my tragus pierced. One day I came home late from work. I wasn't tired, and I didn't feel like going to bed just yet. I sat there thinking. And then I got this random urge to just pierce it and get it over with. So I did.

I went in the bathroom and grabbed a pin with a red ball on the top. I "steralized" it with hydrogen peroxide and fire. Bad idea, I know. I didn't even mark the place on my tragus. I just held the needle to my ear and pushed away. It didn't hurt while piercing it. I had to use a lot of pressure to get the needle through. That was all I felt. It took me a good 5 minutes to get it through. I finally heard this loud "pop" and it was through. I left the needle in there for about 30 minutes then took it out. I tried to push an earring through, but I could barely get it in the hole. I realized the needle size didn't match the earring size! So I ended up getting the earring that was used to pierce my cartilige (it had a sharp back to it, it looked like a needle) and began to try and push it through the hole. A few seconds into it, I was getting pretty pissed because I really wanted this piercing, and the hole was way too small for the earring. So I just shoved the earrin g through my tragus and heard the loud "pop" all over again. I realized I had just re-pierced it with the earring. I put the back on and cleaned my new piercing with Claire's Ear Care Solution. It looked pretty good! A little red and swolen, but the placement was perfect and it looked so pretty!

The next few days was hell. My tragus was pissed and it hurt so bad whenever people hugged me a certain way or grabbed my head. But I cleaned it religously, everyday. A month went by, the redness and pain had mostly subsided. One day, about a month and a half after I pierced it, I went to a place called Nick of Time. It's a place that sells piercing supplies and jewelry and all that junk. I went in there and told them I wanted a 16g CBR, and I wanted them to put it in for me since I knew there was no way in hell I could put it in myself. I told them I had done it myself. They thought I was crazy, but were very surprised it didn't get infected. A few days before I went there, I noticed my tragus would hurt whenever I rotated it.

They told me to take out my earring (which was the same earring I used to pierce it with). My boyfriend was with me, and I heard him say "You're ear is bleeding". I felt my tragus and there was a good amount of blood there. Joe, the guy who was changing my ring for me, whiped it up and put the CBR through my ear. It went in smoothly, even though it was originally a 18g piercing. He spent a good 15 minutes trying to get the ball on. That was the most painful part. Finally, after almost breaking all the bones in my boyfriend's hand from squeezing so hard, he clamped the ball in and told me he was finished. I paid my good 10 dollars for the ring and went to the bathroom to see what it looked like. I cleaned up the blood and smiled. It looked great, and felt so much better than the cheap Claire's stud. I continued to clean it. Eventually, around the 2 month mark, I quit cleaning it. All the redness was gone, and it didn't hurt at all anymore. It was a sheer miracle i t didn't get infected. Now it's been 3 months and it is completely healed. It healed perfectly with no infections at all. MY mom found out about it. She was disapointed, but eventually got over it. She thinks its ugly but I think otherwise. Everyone asks me if it hurt. I say nope!

It's a great piercing, but just because mine didn't get infected doesn't mean yours wont if you try to pierce it yourself. Please go to a professional. It's a great piercing and doesn't hurt a bit. Just keep great care of it and it should be fine. It's such a pretty piercing. Just please, please get it done professionally.
