Firstly, I shall warn the reader (although hopefully the title did that =/) That this is a DIY experience. For those of you who do not like that, please don't continue reading. For those of you who wish to laugh at the experience and revel in my stupidity, continue to read if you so wish to. I don't advocate DIY piercings, on the whole I do not like them, and would prefer to get professional piercings. However I do like the experiences I gain from them.

Now thats out of the way...Today I have been feeling so much better than the previous week. I'd had a really bad flu yet woke up this morning feeling almost better. So I decided that today might be a good time to pierce my Tragus. I'd wanted this piercing for awhile, yet cannot afford it due to college fees. And when I next get money, it will have to go on my good luck tattoo. ANYWAY. Today seemed as good a day to pierce as any, so today it was.

I decided to do a tiny bit more research on the Tragus so I fired up my computer and read a couple of DIY experiences already here on BME. Nothing too gory. I also found out that the Tragus had no nerve endings. Something I previously had not known (so a bit of last minute extra research doesn't hurt!) I also watched a few more videos on Youtube, and, when I was satisfied and had weighed out the pros and cons, I was off.

Firstly I set up a space on a chair that I have in my room. It's got a plastic covering. I wiped the chair down with this strong smelling hand wash (the kind you get in hospitals) that is said (on the bottle) to kill 99.99% of all germs. I then set up a mirror and cleaned this with the hand wash too. Actually it was pretty handy my mum had this- it's excellent for sanitising things. I then put paper towels over the chair and lined up my equipment- q tips, appropriately sized jewellery, sterile hollow needle (unopened and in a 14 gauge.) and of course, the hand wash.I clipped my hair up out of the way and I washed my hands with the hand wash (not for the first time, I think I must have washed my hands with this literally ten times throughout the procedure.) I opened the needle, and lubed it up with this hand wash and I also swathed the jewellery in it too. (Hey it kills 99.99% of all germs and bacteria- you really can't knock it!~)

I lined the needle up to my ear, thinking to myself "I probabaly wont even do this, but it will be a good trial run for when I get the real thing done." I pushed the needle in to a spot of my tragus (I didn't really aim- again, at this point I figured I wouldn't go through with it.) I was suprised when it poked a small hole in my skin which began to bleed. Yet I was comforted at the ease of it, and decided I should at least try. I lined the needle up in the centre of my Tragus and pushed. I could feel it go through. It wasn't exactly painful- it stung a little but nothing major. Gradually I pushed it right through my ear (with a little cork placed at the back to make it easier) I was shocked to see it through my ear to say the least. But it really hadn't been too difficult. I would say it took 10-20 minutes to get the needle completely through, with little stop gaps between mile stones =) Then came jewellery insertion. I placed the labret bar into the needle and pushed it thr ough- it was so completely easy I felt a little shocked! I screwed the ball on and admired my handy work. It was dead centre- another pleasant shock!

I havn't had the piercing long, maybe 40 minutes now and it doesn't hurt at all. It's not even red. I'm sure there will be plenty of time for pain though! Im hoping it will heal well, and I wont get keloids. I usually do on my cartilage piercings, even though I treat them very well. My body doesnt react well to them. This piercing is really nice though and I've already fallen in love with it- I just hope my boyfriend does too! It looks really perfect just sitting in that little pointy bit called my Tragus. So all in all I'm pleased that I pierced it.

Anyway this is my 14 piercing now and I really like it! I will do my upmost to keep it clean and healing well. I hope you enjoyed the story and keep on modding!

=)
