Hey everyone at BME,
At A Glance Author foreverthesickestkid When A month ago Artist Matt Studio Planet Ink Location Ottawa So I had been looking into getting my tragus pierced for quite some time. I had done a ton(approximately 6 months)of research and it would be my seventh piercing as I already had my nose, my helix and two on each lobe. Of course, I, every time I thought about it, was still a little bit skeptical because some of my friends had told it was one of the most painful piercings you could get and others told me it was the most painless piercing they had ever gotten. Apparently, you're supposed to hear a popping noise as it's been pierced(the thought of this completely grossed me out).
Either way, regardless of how much people told me it would hurt I knew I would end up getting it anyways because the pain doesn't last forever.
Anyways, getting on with my story..
So one day after my friend and I were done shopping downtown, it came into my my mind that that day would be a good day to get it done. I had just been paid so that wouldn't be a problem. So I thought we were good to go right? I was so wrong.
I'm under aged by about six months therefore, I would need a parent to be with me to sign or lie about my age and pretend like I lost my ID.
I bet you can pretty much guess what I did. I picked option number two and lied about my age. We tried a couple of shops, including the one I had gotten my nose pierced at a year prior to this experience, and they all told me I needed ID.
Okay, so as we approached the last shop on the street, I got nervous and disappointed because I wasn't sure if I'd end up getting it done. So we walked in and even though I told them I was sixteen,(and I look older too) they told me they would have to call my Mom and ask if it was alright.
This was no problem though considering I had already asked her if I could get it done before I left that morning. Anyways, before they called her they asked me a series of questions( what's your Dad's name, what school do you go to, what's your pet's name etc.). These questions were to prove she was actually my mom and not someone else pretending to be her.
To make a long story short, she answered all the questions the same as I did and I was on my way after sitting in the waiting room for about 20-30 minutes.
I signed a consent form, a waiver and paid all of $68, I was brought into the room where they would pierce me. At this point, I was relatively nervous and I got my friend to hold my hand. Matt cleaned the area, marked where the piercing would be,open the needle and jewellery in front of me so I knew it was clean. After being convinced that I should get a barbell instead of a ring due to less pressure and lower chance of infection , he began piercing( and told me I had a relatively thin tragus :) )
So I braced myself for the pain and the popping sound, I waited for it to hit.
And waited..
And waited..
And waited..
After about two minutes of waiting, he said that he was putting the ball on the barbell..
I DIDN'T EVEN FEEL IT.
After all that worrying, it was the least painful piercing I had ever gotten.
NO POPPING, NO NOTHING.
We left the shop and got on a bus to go home..
My friend liked my piercing so much, she wants to get to done too now!
After, I went home and I was so impressed with my new piercing.
I was showing everyone.
Even my mom thought it was cute.(my dad still hasn't noticed it.)
Hahaha
I've had it for about one month now and I have had no problems whatsoever except for the first week where it hurt to sleep and lie on that side.
There has been no bleeding either.
I've been cleaning it twice a day with spectro-gel and warm salt water using Q-tips.
I highly recommend this piercing to anyone who's thinking of getting it. It was the easier piercing I've ever gotten done and it's been healing very well.
I also recommend Planet Ink to anyone who lives in the Ottawa area.
It's very clean and everyone there is super friendly.
I looked forward to getting more piercings at this shop in near the future such as, my septum, web, collar bones and a surface bar.
Thanks for reading my experience.
I hope that this inspires people to not worry about pain.
