The first time I have ever seen a tragus piercing, I cringed. I loved the way it looked, but never felt like I could go through with it. I was at a tattoo shop with a couple of dancemates, when two of the younger girls decided to get it pierced on a whim. It seemed like after that moment, everywhere I turned, people had their tragus pierced. I had never realized it was that popular. And the more I saw, the more I liked.

I had been toying around with the idea of getting my tragus pierced for about 6 months before actually doing it. I just kept picturing myself with a tiny diamond stud to complete my boring-outdated-double lobed pierced, right ear. So after devoting about a week of doing a fair amount of research and comparing prices around the different shops in my town, I just decided to go for it!

The next evening I hopped in my car, and headed for the shop. Walking in, I was not nervous at all. I knew that whatever the pain was going to be, i could handle it. I have had a couple of ear piercing prior to this one, and I was known to handle pain like a champ. So I had absolutely no worries about what it was going to feel like. However, I also knew in my heart that the pain was most likely going to be worse that what I thought it was going to be.

The piercer was very outgoing, and talked to me like his kid sister. He joked about the size hoop he was going to be using, by telling me it was going to going to be 3x's bigger than the tinest one they owned, and then teased around with me by saying things like "ah, I can't believe your getting nervous" & "yes. this is going to hurt pretty bad".

Yea...not the most professional guy in building.

Soon it was game time. After cleaning the area, he told me to take a deep breath in and out. However at the moment, I felt my breathing starting to get unsteady. So i said "what a sec, im not ready". Instead of him waiting until I was, he just started insisting saying "yes you are. here we go..."

He proceeding to push the needle through my tragus, and I then proceeded to recite every curse word known to man (and also a few that I made up) It started off with a really hot sensation. As he pushed further is when I felt a pinching/piercing feeling (with a slight pop!), and then everything went hot again. I really dont believe in lying to people about the pain, so im going to be completely honest. It sucked.

The pain is actually a majority of the reason why I havent gotten my left tragus pierced, and I have really considered it. But when I stood up and looked int he mirror, I fell in love! I had a tiny hoop in place of where my naked tragus used to be.

The healing process was a dream. Absolutely no complications. No bleeding. Minimal crusting. Swelling but no pain.

My downfall is when I went to another shop to get my hoop switched out for my "dream diamond stud", not even 6 months after getting it pierced. Very big mistake. Though my tragus felt perfect, It was not anywhere near being completely healed. So when I was getting the hoop replaced with a libret stick, I was in excruciating pain!! Even worse than the actual piercing itself! It was a very horrific experience.

I looked lovely in my stud, but because I wanted to switch with a "monroe/libret" stick (which has to be inserted from the rear) there was alot of twisting and pulling that had to take place...

of course I didnt know this until the entire episode was over.

So my healing process had to start completely over, and with more complications I might add. I started to have "sore days" and also "bleeding/puss days". Nothing major, but it made me frustrated with myself, for making such a dumb decision to change it so quickly. This time around to clean it, I had to actually devote more time to the sea salt soaks, and the extensive "babying".

However, it has been 7 months since ive pierced it, and I love it. My tiny diamond stud is perfect, and I have actually inspired others to get pierced as well. I would recommend this piercing to anyone, mainly to those who dont mind the pain or the piercing process. Just do your research, be responsible to clean it exactly how your told, and wait until it heals before deciding to do anything drastic with it! I don't regret any minute.
