I had at first wanted to get an industrial on my left ear, but my mom read too many horror stories online and heard too many bad expiriences from friends. After unsuccessfully convincing my mom and dad to let me get an industrial, I was able to convince my mom to let me get my tragus done. She said that I could do it as long as I didn't tell my dad. He would never notice anways. He never really did like me getting piercings and got mad everytime I got a new one. I had gotten my cartilage done a few months before and I wanted to move on to my next "project".
At A Glance Author taylor When Three months ago Artist Mike Studio Wisemagic Tattoo Location Scottsdale, AZ I had to get it done a few months before my birthday (in June, because it was an early birthday present) because I wanted it to be fully healed before the summer, as I would be spending a lot of time at the beach and swimming. (I afterwards decided that swimming didn't really bother it at all, as long as I cleaned it vigorously afterwards! Haha.) My mom had me call Wisemagic (the place that I would be going) and ask how much it would be, blah blah blah. They said it was going to be $45 with the jewelry, I thought it was a little bit expensive, but in the end it was most definately worth it!
My mom drove me over to Wisemagic one night. Wisemagic was a really great place. It was really clean and the people there were really nice and funny. Since I had gone there about two months before, Mike (my piercer) didn't have us show our IDs. We filled out some paperwork and he took me and my mom into the small piercing room, which was just a spotless as the rest of the place. I sat down in the piercing chair. He dotted where he would put it with a purple marker, right in the middle of my tragus. It was perfect! I chose a silver hoop, because they were easier to clean and take care of. While he cleaned my ear and put on some gloves he talked to my mom, making jokes. He showed us his newest tattoo, which was of his son's "bitter beerface". He told me that he was piercing it at a 16 gauge, like.
I was so scared that it was going to hurt, so I had my mom hold my hand. She was more squemish than I was. She wasn't fond of piercing, or of my fondness of piercing, haha. He lined up the needle and told me to "inhale slowly and deeply, now exhale", and he shoved the needle though. To my surprise it didn't really hurt. It was just a tiny pinch. It felt more like if you were to squeeze your tragus really hard. It bled a lot though, and kept bleeding for about fifteen minutes after it was done. He told me everything I already knew about cleaning it, and all of that stuff.
I was able to sleep on it just fine that night. When I woke up though I noticed that had bled so I didnt sleep on again fir about three days.
In the three months that I've had it, it's gotten infected twice, one big infection that lasted a few weeks, and then one really little one that lasted a few days. They both hurt pretty bad, not gonna lie. I just washed it with antibacterial soap and used bactene on it three times a day. I only use bactene once a day now, just incase one of those pesty infection decides to come back again.
I changed my hoop to a stud after the directed six weeks. I think it looks a lot cooler and better with the stud in it rather than the ring, even though it's hard to put a stud in. Whenever I put a stud in though it makes it bleed because I mess with it too much. I can't put a ring in it anymore though, I'm not sure why. It just doesn't go through, but that's okay, I don't really like wearing the ring anymore anyways.
If you're thinking about getting this, I would direct you not to 1.) play with it when you first get it. 2.) Sleep on it too much because it gets really sore in the morning. And 3.) Don't panic about it hurting! It's really not that bad and looks really great on anyone. I really love having a unique piercing like it, I've only seen three other people with it! My next "project" is getting my nose pierced while I'm in Califoria this weekend.
Get your tragus pierced! It's definately a wonderful piercing! Really unique and not that painful at all.
