Okay, My final size was 1 1/4 and I wanted to make sure they were centered and get ride of my second holes so I went in and got them scalpelled. The difference between 1 inch and 1 1/4 was bigger than we thought so it was a pretty dramatic procedure. He mostly gets smaller scalpelling and he does amazing scarification, but this was a biggy in every sense of the word. So prepped the room, measured and then I laid down and did my deep breathing

I felt the burning of the scalpel and it felt warm, slightly stingy but no real pain. Then he lined up the eyelet and... It didn't fit. We laughed about needing larger tapers and he pressed with gauze and cut a little further up (he always cuts slightly short so the jewelry sits snug). This happened three times until we reached the end of his line and it still didn't fit! He was cool as a cucumber, kept me calm and planned a pie cut. Now this was already three smaller cuts in so my ear was hurting, I took on really deep breath and I felt the worst burning ever and bam the pie cut was finished then he made a couple smaller shaving cuts to even out the tips of the triangular pie cut and popped the eyelet in. My ear felt tight next to my head, wet and warm but it also felt more stable. He held up the mirror and it looked huge. Now I have been almost this large before, though it was only for a couple months, and I didn't remember it being that big. The glass magnifies my hole and the hole now sat square in the middle taking up my entire lobe instead of being to one side. It looked perfect, bloody but perfect. We sat for about 5-10 minutes to allow me to breath but in that time the pain finally kicked in and I started to panic a little about the other side.
I felt the burn, but I didn't really feel the cut. Instead I heard it. It sounded like a slight sawing sound and felt like one smooth movement. His hands were very gentle on my lobes and when he told me to breath for the second cut I was hardly done thinking breath before he had finished cutting through. He placed the eyelet and it was very close, so he shaved off just the tiniest amount and popped it in. That side hardly hurt at all... until about 5 minutes later.
We were waiting for it to finish clotting and he was moping up the blood when the worst burning pain ever started. He prompted my breathing when it would get to fast and after a bit I was able to lay back down. It took about 15 minutes of relaxing and mopping my ears before I felt good enough to stand and when I looked in the mirror I had the biggest shock. My ears looked huge and yet, they fit my face perfectly and they were so even. All the way around the skin was thick and healthy instead of all twisted and uneven like you see on some people. He did a perfect job even with it being larger than usual. My ears were magnificent. I also had a second shock. Before, my ears always felt huge but they also felt natural, as if I never modified them. This was the first time I ever felt like I had actually made a huge change to my appearance that would never change. Even when I was over an inch before I knew I could take them out and look... like a girl who wore heavy earrings one to many times. After 11 years this was the first time I felt modified.
I am very glad I decided to scalpel them up to 1 1/4 instead of stretching them. It was a huge experience that I will never have again, it changed the way my entire lobe set and they are much more aesthetically pleasing. My piercer is meticulous used more gloves than most doctors and had a better autoclave than the Dental surgeon I used to work for. His hands are light and his scalpel goes through like butter. These are all things I would look for when choosing someone to do something like this. Had I not felt his hands during my previous cut, I wouldn't have felt brave enough for this huge task but when you trust your piercer everything is much simpler. So I'm going to keep laying here and take more Ibuprofen before bed. In the morning, I will stare at my pretty ears for hours... I am very happy indeed.
