When A year ago
This is the story about how my ears got pierced. It all started about 10 years ago, when I was 14 years old. One of my class mates in school decided he wanted to have his ear pierced. We all thought that his parents would never permit him doing that. But on a Monday morning he came into school with this shining gold-like stud in his left ear. He looked really cool. From that moment on I couldn't stop thinking about having an earring myself. But I knew my parents would be totally against the idea of their son wearing an earring. They really think that boys who wear earrings are feminine. I didn't even dare asking them. Two years later, when my younger sister turned twelve she asked my mom if she could have her ears pierced. So my mom took her to one of these jewelrystores in a nearby mall. When they returned home I was really jealous of my sisters ears. From that time on I started making earrings from paper-clips and clipped them secretly on my ears and admired myself in the mirror. It really beacame an obsession. I also started looking for pictures of men wearing earrings. But although it became more normal for boys having their ears pierced I still didn't dare having mine pierced. Even not secrectly because I was afraid that people could see a hole in my ear.

When I turned 19 I went to college in Amsterdam so I moved overthere. One year ago a new student came living in our studenthouse. As soon as I met him I noticed he wore diamond-like studs in both ears. We came to know each other better and so we also talked about his earrings and how people had reacted when he got his ears pierced. The more we talked the more I knew that it was time for me to get my ears pierced.

So on a Friday afternoon I went downtown to a jewelrystore. I was a little nervess. I went inside and walked straight to the counter. An older lady was standing behind it and asked what she could help me with. I calmly said that I wanted to have my ears pierced. I couldn't believe me saying this loud in front of other people. She took me to an adjacent room. She showed me a tray with all sorts of studs. I didn't know what to choose; the lady advised me to take a pair of diamond-like studs, since that was becoming more and more popular. I liked them so I decided to take them. Then she told me I had to wait a minute because there was another guy that was being pierced right now. She went back into the store and left me. I really felt excited, there was no way back: in a few moments I would wear pieces of metal in my ears. All of a sudden a door went open and a guy with two silver-like studs in his left ear came in, being followed by a young lady. The guy went into the store an d the young lady told me to follow her into the other room. I had to sit down on a chair and she asked me which ear I wanted to have pierced. I told her I wanted both ears pierced. She then marked my earlobes and asked by looking in the mirror if those spots were ok. I agreed. She then filled the piercinggun with the stud I had chosen. She kept it to my left earlobe and asked if I was ready. I said yes and then I heard a "click"-sound and felt just a little pain. I realised my ear was pierced. I felt so excited. She then pierced my right ear. When everything was done I looked in the mirror. It just looked very cool, having two sparkling studs in my ears. I told her it looked great. She told me about the aftercare-procedures. Then I walked back into the store, paid at the counter and left. When I walked back to my house I simply could not believe that I was walking in public with pierced ears. I felt my earlobes were glowing. But it just felt so good. When I arrived home I c ouldn't stop looking in the mirror. My housemate told me they looked v ery nice on me. All my friends were surprised when they saw me with pierced ears. But they all liked it. Even my parents, although they said they didn't understand why I had done it, thought it looked natural on me. So I was very happy.

After three weeks when the holes were healed I started to wear golden hoop earrings. I just love feeling the weight of them while they are hanging in my ears.

This all happened one year ago and I still don't regret it. I now know by reading on BME, that a piercinggun is not the best tool for getting your ears pierced but I don't intend stretching them.

Well this is my story. I can only say to all boys who want to have their ears pierced, just go for it. Don't mind what others may think of it. You'll love having metal in your ears.
