about a week after my 18th birthday when I decided to finally go for it and get a tattoo. I had been planning on getting one for a couple of years, and now I finally had the chance without doing the illegal thing. I had been working on my design ideas for a couple of weeks before my birthday (yeah, I know, a long time on one design, but it was my first) and I finally knew what I wanted. I wanted to go with a star-moon design. So I went and picked up my friend Amy (have to have ... read more

Satisfaction Garunteed

OUGHTS BEHIND THE IDEA: i used to be the one to tell my friend to think carefully about her decision of getting a tattoo. constantly i would say to her "you know it's gunna be permanent right?" i don't remember what it was that made me consider getting one. all i remember were these obsessive thoughts about how i had to definitely get one. in june of 1999 i went to go meet up with my friend that i considered my older brother. he already has had numerous tattoos and piercings so i was pretty confident he'd take me to ... read more

Tongue and Tattoo

he longest time i have wanted a tattoo but I couldnt decide on what to get. I knew I wanted some form of christian work but what and where was the problem that arose. I seached through many online galleries and many tattoo shops. I decided on a cross but as for what style I wasn't quite sure yet. While checking out a christian symbols web site I found a couple of different symbols that I liked but finally decided on the Alpha and the Omega drawn one on top of the other. While I was at work one day ... read more

My first tattoo(s)

is a long one, so bare with me) I've wanted the tattoos I got for a couple of years now, Always think over what you get, you'll have these for the rest of your life. Choose your tattooist 'very' carefully. Some may not be clean about their work, make sure you pay careful attention to what they do and how they do it. Try to find out as much information on the tattooist and the tattoo place from which you're getting your tattoo. Ask your friends, family members, and other people who you trust to inform you on their experinces ... read more

My elephant.....

ady had 2 tattoos. Granted, they were small-one on the inside of each ankle-but they were mine and I LOVED them. I first knew I wanted tattoos when I was about 12. At 20, I got my first one. At 22, I got my second one. All I thought about for the next 4 years was what I would get next. I hadn't made "rash" decisions for the first two and didn't plan to for the next one's either. I kept waiting for life to throw something at me that would let me know--this is it! My third year in ... read more

One and a half years late

little kid my parents would tease me as we drove past tattoo studios. "Laura, want a tattoo?" they'd ask. Because of my fear of needles and my temper I would get mad and start yelling. I couldn't imagine someone voluntarily sitting there while someone else used needles to stick ink under their skin. Somewhere around 13 I started thinking about how cool it would be. The next time they asked me I said "Yes! Can we please stop?" My father almost drove the car into a tree. For a while I forgot about tattoos, but then my father came home ... read more

Going at it again

always wanted a tattoo. When I was thirteen I told my mom I was going to get a Dancing Bear on my ankle, because I loved Jerry Garcia soooo much. Well, It ended up being completely different from what I had originally planned. I was about to turn 18 and I wanted to give myself a really great gift, other than a carton of cigarettes. So, I started asking around about good studios/artists. After talking to every tattooed person I met, I decided on Lone Wolf. I went to visit the shop and talk to the artists. They were very ... read more

My Experience

wanted a tattoo for as long as I can remember. All throughout high school, I discussed with various friends what tattoos we would get, and where we would get them, and why. But I was always so afraid of the pain, so I was basically talking in hypotheticals. I wanted it, but I didn't want to go through the pain. As time passed, the pain started to scare me less. Then, my roommate got her bellybutton pierced at a piercing and tattoo parlor. While we were waiting, I perused the flashes up on the wall, and my eye was caught ... read more

My First Tattoo

bout the day I turned 18, I went to a local tattoo shop on Long Island. The guy was some old geezer, a real hack. My friend got a decent little scorpion, so I went ahead and got what was supposed to be a wolf howling at the moon on my right upper arm. I don't really recall that it hurt all that much, but it was pretty small. He had hands like hams. He was so heavy-handed, he actually ripped my skin, and I still have a small bit of scar tissue on my arm. It turned out so ... read more
