Love, Pain, and First Times

It started with a bad decision. His name was Mike, and I was so in love with him. We had been dating for a while and I decided that I wanted to get a tattoo of a heart with an infinity symbol around it and his initials underneath to show that I'd always love him. I knew I had to wait until I was legal, and I was planning on making the tattoo a 20th birthday present to myself because I really didn't want to do anything rash. I made a general sketch and then took to the internet to ... read more

PULSE: my first tattoo

I cannot remember exactly how old I was when I first became interested in tattoos, but my first memory of interest places me as younger than four. I was taking a shower with my aunt Liz. She has a tattoo of a fish on her outer thigh. She told me then that sometimes when she takes a shower the fish swims all the way around her waist. After that I was hooked. I knew from a very young age that I wanted pictures on me too! I became interested in drawing and art increasingly throughout my teens. The internet was ... read more

Mon emily beetlejuice

Popped the Ink Cherry

Saturday the 27th of March, 2010 - Probably one of the happiest days of my life. I've never felt so anxious, nervous, nauseous, happy or excited, ever. To be one hundred per cent honest, I was completely shitting myself. Since I was underage, I had to have my mother with me, for permission. She has 5 tattoos, so I trusted her judgment when it came to the extent of the pain. But, of course, being the strange & cruel person she is, she decided to absolutely freak me out by exaggerating the feeling of getting a tattoo. "The shading felt ... read more

My Ink Rejection Story or How I Learned Green Ink Doesn't Like Me

I guess I'll put this in tattoo removal...since it removed itself. Have you ever had an allergic reaction to ink in your tattoo? I have… and let me tell you it ain’t pretty. I’ve only had one bad experience, but it didn’t shy me away from getting more (wink wink). I’m not writing this as a warning per se; more as just an experience. I mean hey, there was no way to tell the ink would reject, even though it is known that some pigments have a tendency to do so more than others – like red and yellow tones. ... read more

My First Tattoo

It was my junior year of college. I was living in Bronxville, NY, blissful at Concordia College, surrounded by friends who I loved. There was a girl named..well...we'll just call her "M". M had been my roommate for a half semester when I first arrived. M was very unstable. She had a severe drinking problem, a temper problem, a hitting problem and one time got so wasted that she peed on the floor of our door room because she THOUGHT she was in the bathroom. As you can imagine, it was NOT awesome. M thought we were best friends, only ... read more

Tebori at Tattoo Hollywood

I have admired tattoos for a long time. As far back as I can remember. I have a very distinct memory of myself at about the age of 5, standing in my driveway, pushing my shirt sleeve up and staring down at my bicep thinking, "I'm going to have a tattoo there someday." At this point, I'm no stranger to tattoos. I've been working on a sleeve for a while now. Since I choose to travel to my artist, it is a slow process towards completion. Originally my sleeve was meant to go almost to my wrist so that I ... read more

Using My Illusion

Eleven years ago, in March of 1999, when I was eighteen years old, I had an idea for a tattoo that I had not seen on anyone I knew, although I was sure I was not the first person to come up with the idea. I wanted to get an armband of sheet music. I was a huge Guns N' Roses fan, and decided that I wanted to get the first few bars of the song, "November Rain" tattooed around my arm. A centerpiece for the armband would be on the outer part of my upper arm, which would be ... read more

Tattooing my Elbow, Working on my horror sleeve

Slowly but surely I am putting together my horror themed sleeve. I started with my Vampira portrait on my upper arm and next came my Edgar Allan Poe portrait. Poe went on the top of my forearm. Though I love my portraits I felt like my arm looked silly and extremely disconnected so I would always cover one of them up(usually Vampira because a longer short sleeve shirt covers her up.) I had an appointment made for this past Friday and I was going to work on my wrist. The more I thought about it the less convinced I was ... read more

Elbow-ish?

It had been several months since my last tattoo and I was getting that infamous itch, I wanted another one. I had so many ideas buzzing around my head that I just couldn't choose, so I decided to wait a while until something I had to have popped into my head. In the mean time I satisfied my body mod urge with a microdermal piercing. One day at work, I spotted a girl with what looked like a heart on her lower arm. It was 'upside down' so that when she had her arm bent upwards, it was the right ... read more
