My First Tattoo

Let me preface this with a statement of inarguable fact: I am pale. Being pale enough to see my veins through my skin and seeming to glowing the dark, to me, has always been terrific. I decided at the ripe old age of eleven that being this heinously pale was a sign. I was literally the color of paper; I was destined to be drawn upon. Unfortunately, I was impatient. When I was 16, I started running with a crowd of fast and loose hooligans. Our lives were about drinking and hookah and Justin Timberlake bringing sexy back. Times. Were. ... read more

Following My Bliss

This is the story of my second tattoo, my beautiful ribs. I found Senses Fail early in high school. The vocalist, Buddy Nielson, has a tattoo on his chest that reads “Follow Your Bliss.” Normally I’d think nothing of this since most of the musicians I like are relatively covered in tattoos, but he references the quote in two different songs on separate albums. Most notably (for me anyway) is “Follow Your Bliss, it reads on my chest, I knew I got it tattooed for a reason, why can’t I just hold it true?” After hearing both songs, I looked ... read more

Pathfinder

The story of my fox tattoo, "Pathfinder". Years ago I did my apprenticeship in tattooing at an Oshawa, Ontario tattoo parlour. The artist teaching me was Greg Hodge (http://greghodgefinearts.yolasite.com/) a phenom of an artist whose idols in the tattoo industry were, Tom Renshaw and Bob Tyrell. His passion was wildlife tattoos. I watched him constantly push himself to the limit, always seeking to improve his technique and that was an inspiration to me as an artist trying to find his place in the field. I haven't found a specific genre of inking I prefer over all others, but both Greg ... read more

Oh Man, I Don’t Know What I’m Thinking Wanting More Back Work…

Since I was 10 years old, I always knew I was going to get at least one tattoo and would often tell my mom this and receive mostly skeptical looks. By age 14 I was checking out books from the library about tattoos. I was interested by the different styles, the quality, the safest way to get one. Well 15 comes around and I become obsessed with the idea of finding the perfect piece of art to get on my back, specifically a dragon. I’m a decent enough artist, but not for this and I know if it’s going to ... read more

What happens when you don't listen to your gut.

This is my unfortunate story about what happens when you don't listen to that nagging voice in the back of your head that tells you that something is just "off". About 3 years ago, I decided to get a tattoo. It was not my first, I already had 3 others. I had been thinking about getting a Celtic styled shamrock for a long while, and finally decided to do it. I had been to a tattoo shop in my college town a few times before, for both tattoos and piercings. I walked in and asked to make an appointment for ... read more

Always Be Prepared When Getting a Tattoo!

I just want to preface this story and say I'm completely satisfied with my tattoo, however, I also wish I had been more prepared before getting it, and unafraid to speak up, especially considering this artwork was going to be on my body for a lifetime. With that said, here is the story of my first tattoo: As a pre-teen and teen, I aways knew I wanted a tattoo and went through phases of what I would want. I'm glad I waited so long to actually get one though, because thinking back over all the things I used to want ... read more

The evolution of my tattoos

The evolution of my lower leg tattoo/s (A work in progress) This is the story not of a first tattoo, or even a tenth tattoo, I am heavily tattooed, all large pieces, I have around ten, so this is more like a story of an eleventh , twelfth, thirteenth and fourteenth tattoo, though I have brought these separate , related ideas together into one cohesive design, which I hope will eventually cover my entire lower right leg. It is also most defiantly my nerdiest tattoo. All my other tattoos are ravens, wolves, nature spirits, adder snakes and so forth, in ... read more

Eyeball tattoo diary

On wednesday 9th on June I got both of my eyes tattooed. Pure black. There's quite a few pictures of them around already as it's utmost extreme thing to do and if anyone, ever, wants those done, they should be 2000000 % sure that they know all the risks and are ready to live with them in the worst case scenarios. The whole eyeball tattooing started with Shannon and Pauly (with few others if I don't remember incorrectly) in 2007. These were done by Howie (LunaCobra) and later on he did few more. To my knowledge he's done 6 in ... read more

Twitter Tattoo!

I'm never the type of person to post on forums or take a person's opinion on a forum seriously. I'm the type of person who would rather do extensive research on an artist before committing to a tattoo. I didn't even end up doing that either when I decided on David Engbaek to do my teacup tattoo. In fact it was twitter that connected me to him. I'm a blogger with about 4,000 subscribers worldwide and I found one follower particular. Back then his moniker was "ottotattoo" and one day out of sheer curiosity, i decided to peep his online ... read more
