Camellia

When I first turned eighteen my lifelong best friend and I decided to get matching tattoos. We both received a small pair of angel wings on the back of our necks. About four months later I was craving a new piece of ink. I decided since I was starting college in about a month this summer was the most appropriate time to get my second. After much consideration I decided to get a black and white Camellia flower tattooed on my rib cage. The flower was a symbol for my mom who is a landscape artist, it is a very ... read more

A Star is Born - The Story of My First Tattoo

I had been wanting to get a tattoo for as long as I could remember and now I was finally 18, I was going for it! So I went into Xanchies, a tattoo parlour near my house, and got a quote for my very first tattoo. I wanted three large stars down my back ranging from about 15 cm to 7 cm across. They told me they would so it for about $380 which I was fine with. I booked in for the following Saturday and spend the next 4 days getting more and more excited. Saturday morning came and ... read more

Well worth the wait.

My parents had never been the type, my Father at least, to look down on things that would be considered 'taboo' by the general public, especially tattoos. Having a few of his own it had always been a good experience for him and, in a way; he passed that on to me. We used to live in a small town in Pennsylvania, and there was a tattoo shop that my parents would go to and where they knew the owner quite well. It wasn't like tattoo shops now-a-days (even though this wasn't really that long ago) but it was kind ... read more

All Aboard

I'd be lying if I said I put a lot of time and thought into this tattoo, well tattoos technically. Less than a week after getting my third tattoo which I got on my ankle at a different studio, I decided I wanted something else. Of course everyone told me to wait and to give it more time and so on because 3 tattoos in 1 week would be too much. Yeah I didn't really see it like that so I called up Sonics and checked to make sure that they take walk ins. I sorted all my questions out ... read more

Advice on Facial Tattoos

Several years ago I had a symbol which I designed tattooed below my right eye, one of many tattoos which I've designed and had done but by far it is the one that people notice the most. The tattoo experience itself was a good one and not very painful but more than that I want to write about the different experiences related to living with facial tattoos. I remember the excitement leading up to getting my face tattooed as well as the anxiety involved with getting a tattoo that's going to be staring back at you in the mirror every ... read more

Third and not final tattoo - a great experience!

Last September, I started studying at the University of Nottingham and took a fairly large step into a world of responsibility and freedom. Being away from my parents, living by myself and taking care of myself was extremely invigorating and allowed me to enter a world which, up to this point, been off limits. I am of course, talking about the world of tattoos and body modifications in general. At the time of writing (August 2008), I have five tattoos: selecting which experience to chronicle first was difficult but I eventually decided on my third tattoo – a nautical star ... read more

My first tattoo

Ok, so I had been wanting to get a tattoo for a very, very long time. My husband was totally opposed to the idea, so I hadn't done it. A few years ago, my sister-in-law (who has multiple tats) and I had been talking about it, and we decided that we would just go look at some flash. We told our husbands that we were going to go rent a carpet cleaner, and we left. The place that my sister-in-law usually went was closed. It took a while to find a shop that was open. The only shop that we ... read more

A new heart

I started body modifications about twelve years ago. I've been tattooed for the first time about eight years ago. I've been suspended six times so far. I had scarifications done. I had broken bones. I had motorcycle crashes. I had third degree burns. I can take pain. But damn it, this one hurt! Let me explain. I had this idea, a few months ago, to get my chest tattooed. At first I didn't know what to get, I just liked the idea of having a big piece in the middle of my chest. But slowly, the idea of getting a ... read more

tattoo correction

I had previously gotten a tattoo on the inside of my forearm below the elbow in 2001. It was the lettering for light and life in greek (zoh pos) intersecting and it was done VERY poorly. The inking of the letters was godawful, crooked, uneven, shakey, not filled in well, et cetera...and when I said something about it the artist went back through and just dug it in deaeper. It scarred like you wouldn't believe. I had big raised scars and the ink was completly uneven in shade. It was a ridiculously bad tattoo. I had gotten another tattoo there ... read more

My first tattoo

I've wanted a tattoo for about a year but didn't want to rush into anything as obviously you're stuck with it for life unless you want to go through a lengthy and costly laser removal procedure. So, firstly I decided on the design. I wanted the word 'spero' which is Latin for hope on the inside of my wrist. The word was symbolic as it links to my nan who gave me the hope to carry on going through tough times in my life, as well as being right next to the large vein on your wrist which relates to ... read more
