Have a Tattoo of something that means something to you not to impress others

Around 8 years ago I had my boyfriends name done on me in Cantonese. I went to a rubbish tattooist in a nearby town and he kind of put me off. First of all I had to wait to hours to get my Tattoo done the Tattooist barely spoke to me before taking me in and was like sit down applied the transfer and was like that alright? The Tattooist also arrived to the shop over one hour late. I was told to bend over a tiny stool in a ratty little room and was moaned at for slightly moaning ... read more

Tattoos on Toes

I got my first tattoo done yesterday, and since I have found so much useful information in the experiences of other BME users, I figured I would return the favor and write in with an experience of my own. I've always wanted to get tattoos, ever since I was a little kid, but I took my time in deciding exactly what I wanted, and where I wanted it. I have a few ideas of tattoos I'd like to get in the future, but I wanted to find one that would really be perfect as a 'first' for me. I went ... read more

Getting my wings...

While I was growing up, things weren't always easy at home - I experienced an unreal amount of death and violence for someone my age. Part of my trying to cope was to cut myself. I did this for a lot of years and have a lot of quite ugly scars as a result. But I wouldn't want to be without my scars, because they, like my tattoos, have come to represent a big part of who I am. It was only after I met my boyfriend that I realised how much what I was doing hurt the people I ... read more

Stars Towards The Sleeve - Original Yeah?

So, for a while I've been working on a project on my left arm, a full sleeve of stars. Which will eventually (if all goes to plan) extend onto my back and chest. I moved from the UK to live with my girlfriend in Berlin about 6 months ago and thought the time was ripe to add a few more. I've had all of my stars (except for 3 on my inner forearm) done in England. So now I had the task of finding a studio with a good reputation to work with. The first studio I went to was ... read more

Get it on the neck!!

Ok, so my first tattoo experience was two years ago. I was so tired of piercing and mad haircuts/colors... I wanted something to really capture 'me' and to show who I was to the world. I hate to blend with the masses, After all, there is only one 'me' and one 'you'. There is a lot of stigma still attached to neck tattoos or just visible tattoos in general, which really annoys me! Especially as Ireland is not the most open-minded of countries. So I'm putting out a good word for all us girls who to like ink! I believe ... read more

Some Call It A Tattoo, I Call It A Liberation

I've been raised to respect authority. I'm a privileged person in the aspect that my parents have tried to give me everything they never had, and more. This being said, I must also then state, my father is whole heartedly against tattoos, piercings and any other body modification you can name or even think of. My mother agrees with modest piercings (i.e. the side of the nose and the ears, perhaps the belly button, but thats about as far as it goes for her, although I doubt she would care as much if it weren't for my fathers solid view ... read more

First Love, First Tattoo

I got my first tattoo in 2007, when I 18 (the legal age in the UK) after a breakup with my first proper boyfriend. The break up had been coming for a long time but it was still a hell of a shock to the system when the time came to actually tell my then boyfriend that I no longer wanted to be with him. We had been together since the night after 'prom' (so clichéd I know) when we were 16 and had been sort of together throughout out school years, we had grown up together. He was my ... read more

My Hawaiian tattoo journey!

Around 9 years ago I read an article in Skin Deep about Keone Nunes, and how he was keeping traditional native Hawaiian tattooing alive. The majority of the photos of his work were of people's lineage. These tattoos run down the outside of your leg, right leg if you are male, left if you are female. I knew immediately that I wanted to get mine done. Flash forward about 7 years, and I finally had the money and time off work to get to Hawai'i. My mother is half-blood, but lost touch with that side of the family when her ... read more

Feist, Death Cab, and Mr. Meloy

When I was ten years old, I was uprooted from my family's comfortable Floridian home with a screened in pool and plunked down straight into the middle of Budapest Hungary. It's safe to say that at the beginning I wasn't very happy with my parents' choice to move, but over time I began to love the Hungarian land, culture, and people. It is now nine years later, and the things that I learned while growing up in Hungary are very much a part of me. It seemed fitting that my first tattoo would be a nod to my heritage and ... read more

My First Tattoo

I always knew what I wanted for a tattoo. It was between a rosary thats, like, all tangled up (inspired by Alyssa Milano, she has the sweetest tattoos) or a Ouroboros (a snake eating its own tail. which means a continuous cycle of life.) I ended up getting the rosary on the right side of my shoulder blade. I set up my appointment at Starlight Tattoo in Belleville, NJ with a girl name Missy. I scheduled it right on my birthday, when I turned 18. When my 18th birthday came it turned out that the bitch got sick and had ... read more
