The journey of getting my first tattoo

When I was seventeen, I was looking forward to turning eighteen for only one reason: getting tattoos. While others my age were trying to sneak into bars with fake ID's, I was trying to find a way to get a tattoo as soon as possible. Growing up in Tonawanda, NY (a suburb of Buffalo), I always heard stories of people going up to Canada to get tattooed before they were eighteen. Even though I knew my mother would hate it, I made it my goal to get a tattoo in the great white north. Not having a license myself, I ... read more

Rib cage tattoo= P.A.I.N.

So I've been wanting a rib cage tattoo for the longest time. I have done alot of research and came to the conclusion that 99.9% of people say that it hurts like hell. So I was prepared to be a little uncomfortable. (little did I know) I have several tattoos, a big one on my lower back, on my butt, on my foot, and on my hip. I have my nipple pierced (which hurt terribly), home done nose, tounge, rook, and my upper and lower naval. So I've had some painful experiences. After doing some design research I found a ... read more

Pansy!

The idea of my latest tattoos has evolved quite a bit over the last year. I started out wanting some half sleeves but wasn't entirely sure what to get to compliment my personality and body. See, I have very thin and long arms. No matter how much weight I gain or how much I workout, they stay really thin, so I don't have much room to work with on them. My design would have to be small and delicate. I finally settled on the idea of floral sleeves. Yeah they are common but they are very pretty and classic. But ... read more

My first tattoo, better the second time around.

To me my body is a valuable canvas make like the value canvas was given years ago when it was expensive and rare. The only difference is my skin can't recovered and redone. Whatever I chose must stay with me the rest of my life. With this in mind I always wanted to decorate my body with things that had deep meaning for me. It took me years before I figured out in my head what I wanted. I wanted to incorporate stone, arches, flowers and use it to embrace myself. I have no skill at drawing and I really ... read more

My First

Well I've been waiting a long time to get a tattoo, and I decided that the right place to do this was when i just happened to be passing through Thailand on a college trip with friends. During our cross through the country I noticed many shops and so forth but none of them looked legit for what I wanted. They all seemed dedicated to tourist and the like. My idea ever since I was a kid was to get a black panther across the right lower part of my abdomen. It was intended to be an all black panther ... read more

My fan-tastic tattoo

For a while now I've wanted a tattoo. I've doodled at school, re-drawn pictures over and over, and finally settled on a design. I decided on getting an oriental fan which has significance to me because of my past and how I've been brought up. I planned on getting the tattoo at the start of the year but I was hesitant as my parents don't want me to have one. I chose a spot on my lower back just above the back of my hip bone so that i can hide it and only show it when I want. After ... read more

Just a Signature

I'll get this out now: my father is dead. He passed away in March of this year due to liver failure complications. I heard a saying once that, "parents will always mess up their children," and I unfortunately have to agree. Growing up with an abusive alcoholic father for twenty years isn't easy, and I'm sure it wasn't my mother's first choice in terms of father figures. However, we managed; I managed. And no one discussed the matter until it was too late for him. As a teenager I became interested in piercings, stretched piercings, and tattoos. When sixteen hit ... read more

First Tattoo

So I had been toying with the idea of getting a tattoo for a while. I had religiously began watching shows such as Miami Ink, and while I admit they played a big part in inspiring me/egging me on, I definitely was definitely set on getting a tattoo even before that. For my first tattoo, i wanted to keep it simple. I wanted to get something that was meaningful to me, but at the same time, something small and uncomplicated to keep my first tat simple. I have been deeply involved with music all my life, and it is definitely ... read more

Cupcakes and Conventions, a match made in heaven?

I started getting inked at 18, im now 20. I guess I caught the "bug", like a can of Pringles, "once you pop, you cant stop" and I've been getting ink whenever possible ever since. I didn't really have any ink that had a good, personal meaning, mainly because I wasn't sure what to get. But during the past year I became friends with an artist called Katriona Godward, she specialises in tattoo inspired artwork, using a number of mediums and photography, and therefore is quite popular with tattoo artists and enthusiasts alike. When Katriona was asked to show her ... read more

MY first tattoo at fourteen

I've been wanting a tattoo for maybe a year, although I could have gotten it immediately, I wanted to choose the design carefully and to discuss with the artist. When i have chosen it, i put it up on a visible place in my room so that I could see it everyday and make sure that i won't get bored of it. It was there for maybe 11 months. I had to make sure that is something i want to keep on my skin until the end of my life and longer. After some time when i have decided that ... read more
