Goddess of Speed

Over the years, I’ve often thought about getting a tattoo, and have occasionally toyed with images I thought I could wear permanently on my body.  I’ve sorted through images in magazines, checked out Google and, of course, perused BME for ideas.  I considered flames, tribal and straightforward images, but just couldn’t commit to a specific tattoo.  Three years ago, I came very close to a tribal, but didn’t go through with it because travel requirements meant I wouldn’t be able to give it proper aftercare.  In the meantime, I also became enamored with male genital piercings, especially the Prince Albert. ... read more

ink and stretch marks

Sometime in early November of 2012, I had started my first substantially sized tattoo. It was a design I had be thinking about getting for years with a lesson I had to relearn more times than I would have liked to. I had my first session in November, and a second in February, with being told many times, "you better not get fat now, or it'll look like a C-can!" At that time it was just a joke my artist liked to tell over and over, little did we know that it might actually turn into a real issue. April ... read more

tattoos for cancer research

At the end part of last year (2011) we found out that my aunt had breast cancer, as you can probably imagine it was a massive shock and no one really knew what to do. I was talking to my mum about it and she said it would be nice to maybe to the race for life to show her our support and raise some money for cancer research at the same time, and that we could get the rest of our family to get involved too. At first I thought this was a brilliant idea and I started thinking ... read more

Oh Man, I Don’t Know What I’m Thinking Wanting More Back Work…

Since I was 10 years old, I always knew I was going to get at least one tattoo and would often tell my mom this and receive mostly skeptical looks. By age 14 I was checking out books from the library about tattoos. I was interested by the different styles, the quality, the safest way to get one. Well 15 comes around and I become obsessed with the idea of finding the perfect piece of art to get on my back, specifically a dragon. I’m a decent enough artist, but not for this and I know if it’s going to ... read more

A Body Modificationand Bonding Weekend

For the longest time a friend of mine, Natalie, has been saying we should meet properly (we met on an online forum) and on a split second decision three weeks ago we set a date for a fun weekend. During those three weeks we decided we should get a tattoo to mark the occasion – just something small and a little random - a puzzle piece with rainbow colours “washing” through it. I got it all booked in with a local artist in my home town of Stamford called Adi Earl (of Earl's Tattoo Studio). Three days before Natalie was ... read more

Another spontaneous tattoo!

Both times I've gotten tattoos, it's been spontaneous. Even though I have the idea in my head of what tattoo I want, I have never had it booked or decided what day I get it done- I just decide on the day that I should go and get it. I think, in some ways, it's better that having it booked a week in advance or something, and then knowing exactly when it's going to happen, and not being able to wait until that moment, or having time to think about it some more and chicken out, or what have you. ... read more

Spontaneous first tattoos

So, for years, I had been collecting ideas in my head that I eventually wanted to get tattooed somewhere. One of those ideas was to get cherries and a spiderweb- for my mum, Cherry, and for my dad, whose last name is Webber. I had thought about getting them on my wrists, but decided against it, or my hip, but I wasn't so keen, and then I thought of ribs. I had always thought rib tattoos were awesome. This was all going on in the back of my mind, even though I had no idea when I was going to ... read more

My first tattoo

In March of 2010, my best friend passed away. He took his own life, which made the experience of losing him even more heartbreaking. For months following, I was wrought with grief, having never really lost anyone before. I didn’t know what to do, and for a while, I turned to drugs and other rather unsavory methods to cull my sorrow. I’m still affected by it, and the situation will never be any less tragic, but I think things are getting better with each passing day. I suppose the decision to get a tattoo for him was rather ironic, given ... read more

My First Tattoo

My First Tattoo On my 18th birthday i had an idea that i was going to get a tattoo. The tattoo had to be custom i didnt want one of those tats that were out of a book, so i got in contact with a local artist and we discussed some ideas. I informed him that I am a firefighter and wanted something that could represent both me and my job. I allowed the artist to draw it however he wanted. He came up with a fire department shield with a cracked stone cross in front of it, with two ... read more

Popped the ink cherry

Saturday the 27th of March, 2010 - Probably one of the happiest days of my life. I've never felt so anxious, nervous, nauseous, happy or excited, ever. To be one hundred per cent honest, I was completely shitting myself. Since I was underage, I had to have my mother with me, for permission. She has 5 tattoos, so I trusted her judgment when it came to the extent of the pain. But, of course, being the strange & cruel person she is, she decided to absolutely freak me out by exaggerating the feeling of getting a tattoo. "The shading felt ... read more
