An Artists Vision

I have been over the past three years adding to my scarification. It is not just scarification to me. It is the renewal of skin that has been torn, beat and cut brutally. Three years ago I decided that perhaps it was time to erase those memories and turn distorted lines into stories of new hope. John has consistently working with me/on me. I never feel as though I am a piece of skin or a picture in a portfolio. In these times with John we share sacred time together. Foolish laughter, his concern over how I am feeling, his ... read more

A starry Scar to remember

My name is Paulina. This is the story of my very first scar. About 7 months ago, I started contemplating a scar. My friend had his arm scarred, done by himself, and I quite liked how it came out. So I started wondering what I would get done...if I were to get one. I didn't think I'd actually have the balls (or the female equivalent) to go through with it. You see, I got to a private catholic girls school (not by choice) and I have to think about what modifications I'm going to get very carefully. No facial mods ... read more

Two stars for effort!

"God made two great lights-the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars. God set them in the expanse of the sky to give light on the earth, to govern the day and the night, and to separate light from darkness. And God saw that it was good." Genesis 1:16-18 I paced the sidewalk outside of Amillion. Tension was building and I was getting nervous. I spied the young female journalist sitting inside laughing with Lance Gremillion. She was interviewing him for a UT magazine piece on scarification. I ... read more

The Etching That Joins Us.

I've always limited myself to tattoos and piercings. Piercings being the favorite of mine, I accumulated well over 25, including a 5 piercing genital project from the time I was 18 to age 21. So it came as no surprise that I spent a lot of time at my shop of choice, Rings of Desire, in New Orleans, Louisiana. For years I had known about their Etching service, but scarification was just never on my to-do-list. So time went by and I busied myself with my piercings. I always told myself a scarification would be saved for something special and ... read more

Navel Branding and Surface Piercing Experience

Both in one session - a lot to take! I've been a fan of body modification for as long as I can remember – certainly since my early teens. Over the years I have has multiple piercings (at the moment I have an 8 gauge ring in my right nipple and 2 14 gauge rings and a 12 gauge horizontal bar in my left nipple. In the past I've also had between 1 and 4 rings in my navel, but don't have any anymore. That's all another story, though). I've never really been into tattooing but after being in a ... read more

My first strike branding

Hello fellow readers. My name is Kenevin and today I decided to write about my favorite Body modification: My strike branding. It all goes back a few months ago when my friend got his ear pierced; I thought it was so cool I wanted to get it done as well. After a month of fighting with my parents I finally go their authorization. After the first week I started looking into ear stretching and started stretching my ear a month later. Then I got a scarification (cutting). So after that I started looking into something new and my friend told ... read more

Love, Tattoos, and The Little Prince

When I was seventeen years old, I fell in love with a 'much older' guy, named Zach. He was an English major at the local university, and for one of his assignments had to write a response to Antoine de Saint-Exupery's The Little Prince. He asked me if I had ever read it, which I hadn't, so I took it upon myself to borrow his copy and finish it. Now, here's the part where I'll make my confession: I'm not that into classic literature. In fact, I'm about as cultured as a plastic Dixie cup. For the first half of ... read more

I'm not afraid to cut.........my little reminders.

I remember first cutting myself with the broken corner of a ruler in an attempt for pain and a pointless scar. I can't remember how old I was but the scar never lasted more than about a week. When I got older, I realised that cutting was such a release and a good way for me to let my anger out. I started out using a compass, repeatedly scratching just trying to get a scar. This would work reasonably well and I would cut my wrist, just once, every now and again. The scars were only faint but I soon ... read more

self done star branding

Im in what I would say is thy early stages of my modification development, and I have had the idea of getting a star somewhere on my body for ages. But I never really knew where I wanted it or what type of star it was that it would be. I thought about getting a red star with black outline tattooed on the underside of my wrist but the urge to do this faded, due to several factors. However, I still wanted a star somewhere and of some description on my body. I had just finished a self branding on ... read more

My Burning Scar

For as long as I can remember, my body and my mind have always been a source of sadness and depression. At the time I turned 20, I'd basically done all I could think of to relieve myself of it and yet still felt vaguely troubled. One day, I started contemplating cutting. I had never been a cutter. The idea of my own blood certainly didn't scare me, nor did the idea, but there was something vaguely unsettling about it that didn't sit right. After much thought and looking heavily into the galleries of it on BMEzine, I knew that ... read more
