So, I have always been a fan of body art and modification, but I was never an active participant except for the usual ear lobe piercings and the "rebellious" cartilage piercing (done at age 14 about 4 times by a friend and a safety pin). For at least 3-4 years I had been attracted to the idea of having the right side of my lower lip pierced. I've always wanted to have some kind of body art. When I was younger I tried piercing my nose with a sewing needle. It didn't hurt me at all. Then again it takes a lot to make me say "Ouch". I also pierced both of my cartilage twice with a sewing needle and I must say pain is my pleasure. If you plan on doing something like piercing yourself with a sewing needle or anything else that could cause a serious infection, don't. You may not end up as lucky. Well one of my best friends and I were talking about getting our lips or getting a vertical labret piercing.
