Tragus FAIL

I've always wanted a tragus piercing ever since I first saw my cousin sporting one. It was a unique, but still classy. I just HAD to have one. When I was sixteen, I finally got my wish. My best friend and I were scouting places for her to get a new tattoo (she was eighteen). She finally found a place that she liked. It had an illustrious mural on the outside of famous painters and musicians, and it had some of their quotes. There was a giant clothing shop filled with cute shirts and bikinis. I figured I could check ... read more

The First Pick (An Industrial Affair)

It was a sunny day at the start of June of 2008, and I'd just turned 16. This was the day I'd decided I was going to get my first piercing in a studio. With cash in one hand, and a friend in the other I headed down to my local shop; Esoterik Body Art. I sat down in the waiting room, and glanced at the price list, but I knew I was going in for an Industrial. I felt it was tame enough for a first 'different' piercing, as it was an ear piercing, but it was a unique ... read more

Avatar Made Me Do It

I've got a theory that watching films in which body mods are displayed encourages me to get them. One of the reasons that 300 is one of my favourite films is because of the piercings that Xerxes, his subjects and his harem prominently display throughout the movie. Anyway, in February 2010 when I was 19, I went to see Avatar with my friend and her flatmate. Although Avatar isn't my favourite film, it is the best film I've seen. Afterwards I was waiting for the bus and had half an hour to wait so I wandered along the street and ... read more

My first cartilage

Ever since I got my second holes in my ears, I had really wanted my cartilage done too. As cliched as this sounds, piercings (as I'm sure tattoos) are really addictive. The only thing stopping me from going ballistic with piercings is getting a professional job out of college :-( (it really sucks that people are still so freaking judgmental today). I'm usually very good with needles, but I had heard stories where people said it was painful and that some people's ears had swelled up after infections and it made me nervous. I researched all the possible things that ... read more

My Daith Piercing

I’ve had 2 sets of lobe piercings since I was 5 years old and decided in late 2009 to start stretching my first set of piercings. Due to my personal, preferred aesthetics, I decided to remove my second lobe piercings. As I have my right tragus pierced, I felt like I wanted to balance out my ear piercings by getting another one in my left ear. After looking online and just observing other people’s piercings while out and about, I settled on a daith. I loved the look of it and the fact that it’s recessed down in your ear. ... read more

DIY inner conch

Let me just start off by saying that you should not pierce yourself if you don't have to. A lot can go wrong and professionals really know what they're doing. That being said, do not go out and get pierced anywhere that uses guns. I have been horrified to see my friends with new piercings, only to find out that they got it done with a gun. Not just lobes, either. I'm talking tragus piercings and helix piercings. Don't do it! Guns are bad. Anyway, back to my conch. I've always wanted a big ring around my ear, so one ... read more

My conch – just keep pushing!

Shortly after I had my helix pierced, I started to get the itch again for another piercing. I started researching other sites, and finally settled on 3 options. Either adjacent to my helix, my tragus, or my snug. The tragus was looking unlikely, however, one Friday I went out to lunch, and our waiter had a most curious piercing in her ear. Right inside it. When I went home, I researched it and found that it was the inner conch. I knew at that point that that was the one for me. I was a bit short on funds at ... read more

DIY Nies

So first of all, I know that nies piercing is not so well-known, so I'm going to explain where it is. It is placed on that particular part of skin where your ear joins your head. (You can see pictures in the BME Gallery) The idea of getting nies has crossed my mind a long time ago, but actually i've never taken it seriously. I was thinking that it would be awesome to have such piercing, but I have never seen anyone with nies, so I thought that this is for a reason and it is very hard or painful ... read more

A life long stretching dream come true!

I’ll never forget when I first became interested in lobe stretching: I was sitting at my Great Grandma’s house in Michigan and she was watching some sort of documentary (I couldn’t have been more than 8 years old.) On this documentary, there were two old women who had hung weights from their ears their entire lives and their ear lobes had become long enough for them to wrap into their ponytails. I was amazed! After that experience, I was very interested in the cultural aspects of body modification. I did tons of research on a large variant of piercings, but ... read more

Pretty Inner Daith

I didn't have a big Christmas. However, I spent it with people I love so I am happy for that... But, I felt the need to get something for myself. A gift. I love the excitement before getting a new piercing. And the piercings themselves always make me feel happy. I searched online for pictures of unique ear piercings. I looked at photos of Rooks, but decided that wasn't what I wanted. Plus, that part of my ear is very small. While browsing Rooks I came across a photo of a Daith and fell in love. The piercing is just ... read more
