Merits of Exploration

To be fair, I did not begin with an interest in body modification. My mother had to almost beg me to get my ears pierced, for I had no interest in doing so. She eventually convinced me to get it done for my thirteenth birthday – I suppose for her it was a symbol of growing up, a sign that I had progressed from little-girlhood into a ‘young lady.’ Similarly, my sister (who had begged to get her lobes pierced before her age even reached double digits) was pierced as she entered her teens. I think for my mother this ... read more

Is this the start of a mid life crisis?

Well I did it, I'd been thinking about it for a long time, but I actually went ahead and got my nipples pierced! This is something I had been thinking about doing for many years now if I'm honest, but I think I was worried what other people might think of me as it would seem completely out of character to most of my friends, but now I'm in my 30's I think I've finally reached the point where I don't care any more quite honestly! I did this for me, not anyone else. Though it was probably aided by ... read more

Sternum piercing

After moving to a new city, with my new boyfriend, to start a new job I had absolutely no experience in, I was feeling very much alone. Not knowing anyone here, I spent quite a few of my free hours browsing the internet or playing ps3 or 360 games. It was on one of my days off when I was looking at a section called unusual piercings on a random website that I saw the sternum piercing. I fell in love: it was so beautiful, so sexy, and compliments a woman's frame perfectly! I researched on bme and other sites, to ... read more

Crucifix Suspension at ROPBBQ 2011

This account was written back in August when my memory was still fresh. It is just now occurring to me however that it would be a good story to publish to the gallery, so here it is: I want to tell you guys about the amazing experience i had! A week and a half ago i packed up my little car with camping gear and drove down to Pittsfield MA for the Rights of Passage BBQ. I met a bunch of interesting people down there, saw some crazy feats (a pull and a spinning bar suspension both of which totally ... read more

Adventure for Venoms

Ever since I was 13 years old I had always wanted my tongue pierced. My mum was completely against it (until I turned 18,) so she let me get anything else. I got my belly button and my lip done (twice,) to suppress the need. I could not help but become obsessed with the idea, though it dimmed over time seeing how common it was and it was just another piercing just like belly buttons. My brother's former girlfriend ended up getting venoms, the only other person I've ever seen with them; then that was IT, I knew that was ... read more

Earlobe Reconstruction

Day One: I travelled over to Leeds from Sheffield to meet Luke Iley from The Oddfellows Tattoo Collective. The Procedure Met in a nicely styled waiting area we discussed the procedure before he went to set up. I was really pleased with the work area, slightly uncomfortable about sharing a room with one of the tattooists who was also seeing a client but I was quickly put at ease. After about 15 minutes of marking up, careful consideration and an involved conversation about the techniques employed I felt totally confident as I lay down. The hemostats, as always were the ... read more

Lovely Nipple Piercing. What's all the fuss about?

For some reason getting the thought of a nipple piercing gave me a lump in my throat you know a sickly nervous feeling in your stomach? A lot of the stories on this and various other sites had gave me the impression that it is indeed the most painful piercing you can get, but it can't be that bad right? So far I've gotten seven piercings, nose, navel, tragus, helix, rook and conch; thankfully they have all healed fine so eventually I began craving a new piercing, one of my friends recently had her right nipple pierced but had to ... read more

Suspension - An Outsider's View

Taken from my writer's blog http://madeleineswann.wordpress.com/ I never thought I'd sit happily while my friend was hung up by hooks, but that’s what happened. I was living in Bournemouth at the time, though I still have no idea how I ended up there. I spent the summer of 2005 sitting on Bournemouth beach watching the locals fry themselves like bacon. It was supernaturally hot. It was on one of these days that my friend Matty mentioned he was going to a suspension party. Matty towered above me, had a long beard and the biggest blonde dreadlocks I’d ever seen. He ... read more

My navel scalpelling experience.

Two days ago, I bit the bullet and went under the knife. I originally had my navel pierced at 14g and had stretched to 8g before realizing that I hated the placement. After retiring it, I sought out someone to re-do the piercing in a better spot and at my goal size. I kept all options available, from piercing with a needle, to punching, to scalpelling - which was ultimately the choice I went with. To keep things relatively anonymous, I'll stick to using first initials of names only. I arrived at the studio just as it opened at noon, ... read more

Birthday Button

I remember back in seventh grade, a girl in my art class named Savannah got her bellybutton pierced. I remember being a bit shocked, somewhat disgusted, at the little girl with the red gem glistening from her midriff. I remember being intrigued. I wanted one. I pictured myself with a little silver and purple bar, showing it off like Savannah, gleefully posing in swimsuits with my bling, since I was into that back then. However, the thoughts quickly faded into the background as school became more intense, and friends more reluctant to encourage my shenanigans. A few years later, I ... read more
