The Shifting Urban Body: In the Culture of Recognition

Shifting Urban Body: In the Culture of Recognition The Shifting Urban Body: In the Culture of Recognition. Copyright &copy 1995 Mike McCabe On their voyages across the surface of the earth, 15th and 16th century maritime explorers referred to the unknown regions of the globe as Terra-Incognita or uncharted territory. They roamed the surface of the world blindly, unaware of the significance of its contour. Without the luxury of a map, early explorers had no meaningful framework that could orient them in their travels, there was no top or bottom to anything. There was nothing but the stars to help ... read more

Switching to the role of the piercer

tching to the role of the piercer My ex-boyfriend was rather unadorned and unhappy with his condition. For quite some time he had wanted piercings but was unable to get them because he was a minor and his mother would not consent. So, lacking much of an alternative, he turned to me. I was planning a trip to Atlanta and he asked me to return with a piercing needle and jewelry so that i could pierce his earlobes. I came back prepared to pierce when he finished performing in the community play (it would be rather difficult to portray an ... read more

Nipple piercing at Jock's Studio

ple piercing at Jock's Studio Nipple piercing at Jock's Studio Last October (of 96), I had my nipples pierced. I have been interested in piercing for many years, but only in the last two have I achieved the level of maturity needed to allow myself to actually do this. It's now February of 97, and I couldn't be more pleased with them. Here's my experience of October 12, 1996. It took place the day after my coming out. (I didn't plan it that way, it just happened. And I didn't plan on coming out on "National Coming Out Day", either. ... read more

BME BOD MOD SQUICK

BOD MOD SQUICK Pat Fish's inadvertant piercing Seems like the stories behind medical events are never quite as dramatic as we might wish. There I was, up on an antique stepstool I inherited from my Grandmother, putting lettuce in a fishtank in my tattoo studio. Next thing I knew, a misstep had propelled me to the cement floor and I was an industrial statistic with a bone shattered into 20 pieces. The two inches of radius next to the wrist bones were visible in the x-rays as a mass of shards, and I was fortunate indeed to have access to ... read more

Self Nipple Piercing Experince

f Nipple Piercing Experince I'm a forty-two year old married man. For the last twenty-some years I have worn a pair of gold rings in my nipples. About five years ago a matching pair of gold rings was inserted into the head of my penis; one on top in a Reverse PA, the other in a conventional PA. Just last year a single gold ring took its place in a piercing that enters from the front and exits from the back of my scrotum. For as long as I could remember I had fantasized about being pierced. As a kid, ... read more

Cartilage Piercing Experience

tilage Piercing Experience Cartilage Piercing Experience Part 1 After reading BME and BME/Extreme for quite some time now and enjoying them so much, I thought I'd contribute what some may think is a routine experience. To me it wasn't. It is now almost 5 months after my first tatoo, my first venture into body mods besides the common double pierced lobes. My daughter and I both decided we wanted a cartilage pierce and would do it together, sort of as a "mother-daughter thing". She is 15 and is confined to a wheelchair due to cerebral palsy so I often check ... read more

ABOUT BRANDING

I'd like to share my views and experience regarding branding. I've been involved in this form of BodyArt for the past three years and have performed over thirty brands totaling over two hundred strikes. Training as a piercer gave me a solid grasp of sterile technique and thousands of piercings taught me how to calm apprehensive clients. A little more research into burn first aid firmed up my aftercare approach. Anybody seriously considering piercing, tattooing, cutting or branding another humans flesh, in the name of art, should be prepared to study and practice. I'd like to thank Raelyn Gallina, Lance ... read more

"Hell yes it hurt"

t hurt" Subject: "Did it hurt"? "Hell yes it hurt" One man's nipple piercing. From: "Ogre" (Ogre@Worldnet.att.net) Newsgroups: rec.arts.bodyart Date: 30 Aug 1996 14:57:59 GMT It has been storming everyday for about a week here. Which is o.k. with me, the rain is sort of like nature's own symphony and is very soothing. And then yesterday when I awoke with the sun shining bright and the birds singing, I knew that this was the perfect day for a piercing. I got up showered, had some breakfast, and gathered all the piercing FAQs that I have printed and read all again ... read more

My First Mhendi

First Mhendi My First Mhendi So I am now typing with my left hand delightfully decorated a yummy shade of sienna. It looks so pretty I just keep staring at it... it's almost hypnotic! I had gone to 3 Indian stores Thursday but wanted to go to the one a couple of minutes away from my home... so did that this morning. I found the most gentle woman working there... one who took over an hour showing me around the small store, describing the different foods and such... and then, sharing her knowledge of mhendi with me. Her daughter, who ... read more

Mr. Normal Suburbia

Normal Suburbia My experience into piercing, beyond the average ear gun procedures, is pretty limited. I had my left ear done twice about two years ago. I thought two holes in my ear was pretty cool and about as far as "Mr. Normal Suburbia" would go, especially at 40 plus. But for some reason I was always looking for a heavier, more substantial look. And those dainty little earrings sold in department and jewelry stores just didn't do it. Well after many of those thicker "looking" earrings I decided to call the local piercing store. He explained to me that ... read more
