confession after confession -- my stomach tattoo

The one question I've always hated the most when people see my tattoos is the inevitable "what does it mean?" I don't really have an issue giving some explanation to the people who ask me, but most of the time, I'd just rather not. This is not because I'm a prick and don't have time for the un-tattooed masses, no. The explanation is sometimes just as painful as the tattoo, and really, having the tattoo in the first place is enough. Undoubtedly, most of the people here have stories or memories associated with their tattoos – painful, funny, embarrassing, or ... read more

14g Nipples

I've been interested in body modification for... a long while now (no need to detail my history of adolescent needle exploration and home-made tattoo guns). Well, that state of stupidity ended years back when I realized that hope was on the horizon- age 18 was approaching- enough to keep me away from alcohol soaked sewing needles. I finally turned 18, legal and free to mod as I pleased... minus my parents' rules. "No piercings in the house; either they're out or you're out." I had waited this long, why not a few more months? That was not my attitude. I ... read more

Regret

I'm usually really thoughtful about all my body mods, in fact it took me years of thought to decided on whether I was sure about getting my first tattoo, and a tonne of research on which artist was best suited to do it. So now that I'm sitting here with a gauze compress taped to my chest, I'm wondering what the hell I was thinking, or if I was even thinking at all. I was shopping with my mother and sister about three or four months back, I was nearly broke and hadn't even brought anything yet, but we had ... read more

Two years in the planning, over in twenty minutes.

Ever since I can remember, I've been fascinated with tattoos. I've wanted one since before I started high school, but knew it was a no go, at least until I turned eighteen. My father died when I was eight months old. Therefore I have no memories of him. I do, however, have several items of his clothing and people have told me things about him, et cetera. He used to sing the song Forever Young by Bob Dylan to me, when getting me to sleep or whilst bathing me. My grandparents had the lyrics printed and framed for a gift ... read more

My impromptu philtrum/medusa

About a week ago I realized that I could pierce my lip starting from the top of my bottom lip and ending below my lip. Why is this important when I'm writing about my philtrum piercing? Well, when I realized this and found out it was an actual piercing, a vertical labret, I decided I would go to Evolved the very next Thursday to get it done. The thing is Evolved has a buy one get one special on Thursdays. At first I decided I would get the other side of my navel but changed my mind to my other ... read more

My Inverted Nipple Piercing Experience

Ever since my breasts started to develop I knew that they weren't 'right'. When I compared myself to other girls and women their breasts and nipples were vastly different to mine. Their nipples were more pronounced than mine. I just figured that I was destined to be weird, much to my dismay inverted nipples are quite common not to mention normal with normal functioning. At this time my breasts were still growing but I somewhat knew that I was always going to be the 'freak' and that there was little I could actually do. After I gained my first intimate ... read more

Nape Dermal Anchors

I have had very long standing plans to get the nape of my neck pierced. But I had put it off for quite a while. Initially all I knew about was surface piercings and I was worried about their chance of rejection. Then one day I was trolling the internet and came across dermal anchors. Amazed by this I picked up my phone to schedule my appointment with the one piercer I trusted to pierce me. Little did I know that he quietly moved to New Zeeland. Well now what do I do? Time to start the piercer hunt, after ... read more

My 2g lobe journey

Around the end of June, I pierced my ears in my bathroom with a 14g piercing needle followed by 14g circular barbells. I left those in for about 8-10 weeks until I came across some 10g steel plugs that I liked. I wanted to stretch to a 00g to begin with but the longer I thought about it, I decided I wasn't going to stretch, until I found those 10g steel plugs. I ordered them, a 12g steel taper, 12g captive bead rings, and a 10g steel taper. I wasn't going to stretch right away, not knowing much about it, ... read more

So it goes.

It's been two years since I got my first tattoo. My recollection at this point is a little hazy, but I'll put together what I can. It was April 2007, and I'd been wanting a tattoo, but I had no idea *what*. When the news came through that Kurt Vonnegut had died, I knew what it would be -- Vonnegut was my favourite author all through high school and beyond, and Slaughterhouse-Five has always held a very special place in my heart. I opted for the phrase "So it goes" -- as a tribute to Vonnegut and to that book ... read more

Just want to get it right...

I already have more than a few body mods but that same old itch to get another one hit hard. I started out by looking around on Google and BME before finally deciding on the right side of my lip. I didn't have but a little bit of money at the time so I figured the best option would be one that I could manage on my own. My lip didn't seem to be something difficult or something that would require much experience. First things first, I had to get my supplies. This gave me about four or five days ... read more
