Best birthday present
Right, it all started a few months ago. It was nearly my birthday and it's a tradition for me to treat myself to a new piercing on this day every year. Granted I get a few throughout the year, but I like to get one especially on my birthday. So I started deciding what I wanted to get done. I already had a few piercings, ten at this point I think. But it's hard for me to get new ones because my parents are totally against the idea of modifications. In their words they're a stupid idea and I'll regret them when I'm older. I even have a bet with my mum, she says by the time I'm 25 I will have taken them all out, and I totally disagree. But back to the point, because of my parents unwillingness to let me get pierced, until I'm 18 I'm not allowed to get anything prominently visible pierced. This means no eyebrows, lips, tongue...basically no facial piercings of any kind. Unfortunately this covers most of the piercings I want to get done. So I sat and racked my brains trying to think of something new and original to get done. I already had a few piercings in my ears, and although I love them a lot, I wanted something different. Then, one day at work it hit me; I should get my nape pierced. I told my parents about it and although it wasn't the best news they've ever heard they didn't make too much of a fuss. I explained that I could wear my hair down at work so that wouldn't matter and then just tie it up when I go out so I can show it off.
So anyway, my birthday came around on the 29th December, but unfortunately the end of the day came and I still hadn't got it done, I just didn't quite find the time. In fact it wasn't until a week and a half later that I actually got round to having it done. Originally it was my plan to get it done on the Monday, my first day back at school. This was mainly due to the fact my friend was getting his belly pierced on this day and he asked me to go with him. I thought while I was there I'd get mine done. However I managed to get talked out of the idea when people reminded me I was going to a concert that night (Bullet for my valentine) and it probably wasn't a good idea to get it done before I went. So yet again I had to put off getting it done.
Luckily I was woken up the next day by another friend. She said she was going to go and get her belly pierced that morning before she had to go to school (we didn't start until 12:15 that day so we had plenty of time) It didn't take me long to decide this was a good idea. So we met up before school and got some breakfast while we waited for the studio to open. I'd had my scaffold and my conch done at the same place and they'd been fine so I trusted the guy who was doing it. I went in first, he got me to sit backwards on a chair and he marked the placement. He asked me if it felt alright and I said yes. To be honest I don't think I even paid attention to where he had put the marks, I was too excited and happy at this point, I was finally getting it done! The back of my neck was numbed and the needle went through effortlessly. We had a quick chat about aftercare and what I already knew about surface piercings. Then after my mate had got her belly done we left. Needless to say we didn't end up going back to school that day, but I didn't miss much.
When I got home and told my mum that I'd actually had it done, she wasn't best pleased. In fact she didn't talk to me for the rest of the day. My dad was better about it though. He said he thought I was crazy but that was the end of it. Hopefully one day they'll grow to love my piercings as much as me, but that's very doubtful.
Two days later and I'm really surprised with how it's turned out. I was expecting it to hurt after the numbing spray had worn off but I didn't feel a thing. I even managed to lie down on it that night and it didn't bother me in the slightest. I have to say it's definitely one of my favourite piercings, and I love the looks I get off people when they see it for the first time. Anyone who's thinking of getting it done really should, I love it to bits and don't regret it at all. All I have to do now is wait and see how the healing goes.
