My first major piercing:)

My mother has always been a strict woman. I was only allowed one hole in each lobe up until the age of 18. Ever since I was about 13 years old I always admired tongue rings and thought they were very cute. I had joked about to my mom a few times and I got the same "no way, I will disown you" response. I was really upset because a tongue ring was something I REALLY wanted. When I turned 18 and went off to college I decided that this is something that I really wanted and it was worth any complaining and getting talked down to that my mom did.

So I did some researching on this site to find out if all the rumors were true. Could you really pierce a vein and die? Could you go into seizures? Everyone seemed to know of a friend of a friend who that happened to. There were so many nasty rumors being said to deter kids from getting their tongues pierced, but many of those were things that happen about as often as you would win the lottery. After going through and reading experience after experience I decided that this was something I really wanted to do and it was actually very safe.

I went around a couple studios checking prices and conditions and such and I chose Hardcore because it was right by my school and the price was great. I found they cost anywhere from $25-$50 generally. I had gone in there previously with friends to watch them get their piercings so I was familiar with many of the artists. I just hadn't really paid attention to how clean the studio was and what not. So I checked out the studio, went through the portfolio of piercings, and watched them do a suspension. By this time I was so excited, and a little bit nervous to get pierced.

I gave them my ID to photocopy and signed all the papers and such and sat up on the table. I had brought a few friends with me to watch and cheer me on. I had to hold my tongue with a paper towel for a little while. The guy that worked there was teasing me because I drooled a little while they were prepping me. Before I knew it, my tongue was in the clamps. I'm thinking to myself "this is it...now it'll probably hurt a little". But nope, the needle went right through my tongue and it was done. It was a little weird when she put the barbell in but surprisingly it didn't hurt at all. It just felt like I had a little extra weight in my mouth.

I went back to my room, sucked on ice for a few hours and followed the rest of the aftercare instructions. After a few days of mostly liquids and such I was back to eating normal solid food. The lisp wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be and before I knew it I was talking normally and everything. All my friends thought it was the coolest thing and a lot of them want theirs done now. Especially my friends who watched...they saw how quick, easy, and painless it was so now they're yearning to get a little barbell in their tongue.

When my mom saw she flipped and wouldn't lend me money for anything for awhile. She was really pissed and disappointed but she's over it now. I tease her every so often by sticking my tongue out and playing with the balls on it...now she just smiles and turns away. I've had my tongue ring for about three months or so and I love it!! It's my favorite piercing ever. It will come as a shock to a lot of family members, but they'll get over it. They have to love you no matter what. Now I'm deciding on what to get next...it's between my nostril and my clit :)

To anyone looking to get your tongue pierced, I'd say go do it. Just be sure that the studio is clean and sanitary. Most are these days though. Another plus about this piercing is that if you get it and decide that you do not want it anymore, it heals so quickly and after about a week you won't be able to tell that you ever had it pierced. Be sure to follow all the instructions though. DO NOT come in contact with saliva (other than your own) or any bodily fluid for two weeks. It is worth it because you really do not want to get a nasty infection in there. It is really easy to take care of while it's healing and as long as you keep your tongue and mouth clean, having your tongue pierced will be a great experience for you and a plus to any lover you may have:)
