A new hole in my head....my tongue piercing experience.

A new hole in my head....my tongue piercing experience.

I have wanted a tongue ring since I was about 15. I saw this guy at the mall that had piercings everywhere, the one that really got my attention was his tongue ring, it was huge! Atleast a 6ga but I remember it looked so cool, very erotic. At that time piercings (other then ears and nostrils) were not very popular and there wasn't anywhere in this rednecked town that did piercings so I didn't think much more about it, I just knew that one day I would get one.

About a year ago I started thinking about it all the time, wondering what it would be like, the comments I would get (I look like the "girl next door" type) and above all what would my parents think? I am now 21 and figure it doesn't matter what they think.

So I make the call to Marnie at Kreative Khaos in Brantford, Ontario Canada. I asked a ton of what I thought were stupid questions but she was very good about it, answered all my questions so I made the Appointment, Wednesday Jan 28th 1999 at 5:30 PM. Only a week away....

As soon as I hung up the phone I was like "what the hell are you doing?!?" I knew nothing about it other then I liked the look, time to find info on the net. That is when I came across BME, I read every tongue piercing story, all the FAQ's and care sheets. After reading everything, I was ready, or thought I was.

I woke up early Wednesday morning, instantly I felt ill with the thought of ramming a needle through my poor tongue. I got ready for work and tried to go on with the day as usual. All I could think about was my 5:30 appt, I was so excited but so scared at the same time. I tried to eat breakfast, couldn't. The minutes ticked past slower then the hours, I felt sick to my stomach and just couldn't concentrate on anything but my appt with Marnie.

Finally 3:00 rolls around and I'm out of work thank god, only 2 1/2 more hours to go. I went home, tried to eat again fully knowing I wouldn't be eating a lot for the next few days but yet again just couldn't. I called up a couple friends, Lisa and Ali who both had agreed to come with me.

It's 5:00...time to go. We walked into Kreative Khaos and greeted my Marnie, she was very nice. She had quite a few piercings including 2 tongue rings, which made me feel a little better knowing she had also experienced it and knew what she was talking about.

I was visibly shaking, very white so Marnie had me just sit in the lounge and asked me to relax. We talked about the procedure, she told me I couldn't get my ring as far back as I would like because my webbing was rather forward so the piercing would be aswell. She marked it, I took a look and agreed, my friends also confirmed that it was a great spot.

Well its time, Marnie lead me and my friends into the back room, it was very clean and smelled vaguely of rubbing alcohol. I had asked earlier if I could use ambesol to help ease the pain and she agreed. as soon as I sat in the chair I closed my eyes, If I was to see the needle I'd chicken out.

Marnie clamped my tongue, put paper under my chin to catch the drool (I drooled like a baby cutting teeth, very embarrassing!) and asked if I was ready, I replied "ahah" and bam, it was through. NO PAIN!!! Before I knew it the bar was in and she had me rinsing. Before she allowed me to get up from the chair to check it out she asked "do you feel dizzy or nauseated?" Both my friends replied "yes" but I felt great! I jumped up and looked into the mirror, the bar looked great, but it was huge! 1" 14 ga. Marnie gave me a care sheet, we scheduled and appointment for me to come back to downsize my bar I paid $85 and we were off.

Already I am playing with it, I love it. We went to the drug store where I bought Advil and Listerine. And then Lisa took me home.

Day 1 (that night)

a little sore but not terrible, I rinsed with Listerine tons, sucked on ice chips, took some Advil and went to bed.

Day 2

Wake up, no pain! There is some slight swelling but nothing to worry about, I go on through the day at work trying to hide it but it's really hard when I have to talk to people. Word gets around really fast and by the end of the day everyone knew. Boss doesn't care which is great! I go on with the ice, Advil and Listerine.

Day 3

Still no pain, a little tender though when I catch it on my bottom teeth. I went out and had to show it off to everyone, some like it and some don't but each to his own right. Still heavy on thew Advil and Listerine, can't eat solid food yet, to afraid of ripping the bar out of my tongue.

Day 4

Yet again, no pain and no swelling. I think I got off really lucky! I absolutely love it, my mom hates it and freaks out everytime she sees it. My dad doesn't care one way or the other, his comments were "it's better then a tattoo" (I already have 3 tats). Tried to eat a cheeseburger, takes too much time to eat so I go back to soup.

Today

My tongue is doing great, I ate normal food today and am speaking fairly clearly, only a few words I can't say properly but I'm sure that will disappear when I downsize. I work at a Wendy's and got a $4 tip (not a normal thing in the FF business) just because the guy thought my tongue ring was "cool". I also work at an office and a bar, countless comments from customers but I'm enjoying it.

For anyone who is thinking about getting a tongue ring, do it, you will love it. I am one of the biggest weenies in the world and I can honestly say it did not hurt at all, I didn't feel a thing.
