Much like many of the people's stories here at BME, my parents also did not want me to get my belly button pierced. Actually, they didn't want anything pierced on my body unless it was my ear lobes, and those were already once done.
I only mentioned the idea once to my mom in the car from a day coming home from school, and she freaked. Seriously, she almost crashed the car while she tried to reach in the back seat and slap me for even thinking such a 'terrible' thought. No amount of sucking up and begging was going to change her mind, and I knew my dad would feel the same.
So I decided to take things into my own hands. I was browsing the BME stories by location and tried to find a place that would do it for me. I came across a nose piercing done in NRG Salon in Erin Mills mall. My older sister works at the mall, so I decided I would go with her to work one day, and while she was working, I would secretly get it done.
This experience just happened a few hours ago, so it's still fresh in my mind. I went with my sister to her work, and then I told her I would be looking around for a few hours and have my dad pick me up when I was ready. She agreed.
I walked to NRG and made an appointment that was 30 minutes later. In the meantime I went to the food court to calm my stomach down. 30 minutes past and I went back to NRG. I was told to sit on the sofa by the friendly lady at the front. I only had to wait for about 4 minutes when a nice lady came in the salon and introduced herself to me, Mary was her name. I followed her to the back of the salon in a small room with a few tools and a chair like at the doctor's office. She had me pick out what barbell I wanted. I picked a pretty silver barbell with green diamonds. Then I had to show her my ID, proving I was 16 years old and didn't need parental consent. I signed a form and that was that. The total came to $88.81 CND for everything. We went to the front to pay for it and then I followed her back again to the same room.
She got out a brand new barbell and put some new gloves on. She had me stand in front of her, and then she lifted my shirt. I thought I was going to get pierced standing up! But instead she wiped my belly with that stuff to make it all clean, and marked the two holes where the barbell would come in and out from with purple marker. I did a few poses for her to make sure they were straight and then she had me lie down on the chair. She took out a new needle and then talked to me about school, etc. while she performed the piercing. From the stories I read on here about naval piercing, I was expecting to see a clamp, but I didn't. Actually, I didn't see much of anything so I don't know of there was a clamp or not, or even a needle. She took the needle, though and I felt it go through me. I won't lie, it did hurt a bit, but it was bearable. I even said "ouch" twice, but I didn't scream it or anything. Every time I said "ouch" Mary would ask me if I'm doing okay or not. Of course, I would say yes. She quickly placed the barbell though, and it hurt a lot. More then than it had when she was putting the needle through. The process was over as quickly as it had begun. It took all of 10 minutes. She said, "All done!" and allowed me to stand up and look at it in the mirror. I was satisfied, so I said thank you.
She went over how to care for the piercing and gave me a balm + aftercare sheet and I was on my way out.
I called my parents and they drove me home. By the time I was home, I hardly felt it at all! My little sister likes to poke me though, so I would cry out a little when she did and then yelled at her. Other than that, I'm sure it will heal pretty nicely. I can't wait to tell all my friends!! And the best part is...my parents don't even know about it! I will tell them eventually...but not just yet.
I think it looks incredibly pretty and I'm glad I went to get it done. If you're having doubts, I say you go for it! If you have any questions at all, feel free to email me at xZayna24@gmail.com!
