my first tattoo (a rib piece)
When I was younger I never really thought about tattoos. I had been raised in a pretty strict family that was not that prone to anything out of the normal. I had one older cousin who was covered in tattoos and my parents always warned me about looking like him and having to wear long sleeves all the time because he had trouble finding jobs. When I was about 16 I started really taking an interest in body art. I never brought the issue up to my parents, because I knew that it would be shot down in an instant. I thought of many different designs that I wanted to get and thankfully I didn't get any of them because in hindsight I would have really regretted my childish ideas.
I was browsing this sight looking at ships because I love the ocean and saw a ghost ship. I liked the detail in the ship but redrew a few parts that I didn't like. Because I was still 17 at the time I sat on the idea for a few months until I turned 18. Two weeks after I turned 18 I decided to go to skin flix tattooz in Brunswick. A friend of mine had two tattoos done by them and they both turned out great. Sean greeted me as I walked in the door and was very wiling to work with my ideas. Because of my work schedule I was not able to get the tattoo that instant, so we set up an appointment a week later to do the outline.
I always liked the look of tattoos going up people's sides, and that was where I decided that I would have mine done. It goes from just above my hipbone to about nipple height. We decided that it would be best to break it up into two sessions one to do the outline and another to do the shading and detail work. This was to be a black and grey tattoo because I feel that they look more sophisticated and detailed.
On the day of my appointment I was very nervous. It was at 12:30 and I woke up at about 8:00 ready to go. I went to the bank and got some money me and my buddy went to get some lunch. I hardly ate because I had butterflies in my stomach. My buddy had to go to work so I went alone to the shop. Sean showed me his drawing and there were a few changes that I wanted him to make so he did a bit of redrawing then showed me the new image. I thought it was great so we got ready to start the tattooing.
He started down near my hipbone and I did not think that it hurt that bad. Now I wonder what I was so scared about. I had to try really hard to take shallow breaths as to not mess up Sean's lines. The pain wasn't that bad until it hit my ribs. The lower ribs seemed to rattle and shake my whole body. As the needle went up my body the upper ribs near the top of the tattoo really were painful. I just closed my eyes gritted my teeth and dealt with it. Sean talked a little but we actually didn't say much during the tattoo process, and I didn't really mind because it showed that he was concentrating on his work. Time seemed to fly though and my endorphins kicked in big time. The two and a half hours passed and my outline was done.
It looked sick, and I'm so glad that I went to skin flix. I go back in two weeks to get the shading and details done and I can't wait. My dad was not that happy that I got a tattoo, but he said that I was an adult and I could technically do what I wanted without his approval and he respected my decision. I would recommend skin flix tattooz to anyone who is near Brunswick Ohio because they did a great job for me.
This was my first body mod apart from having my ear pierced for a brief time, and I am completely satisfied with it. I can't wait until I finish it and it is complete. I have other plans for tattoos coming up once I get the money saved up. I found the pain to be actually therapeutic and it didn't bother me to be poked by a needle thousands of times. My dad even considered getting a tattoo with me, but I doubt that that will happen because he is very conservative and believes that the body is a temple and should be treated as such. I had a great first experience with tattooing and am ready to do it again in two weeks.
