Tattoo @ Saint Sabrina's
the past year I have been becomming more and more interested in body modification-especially tattoos and piercings. At that time, I wasn't really in a position where I could have either of these things done, so, after looking around BME for awhile, I instead turned to scarification. After putting a nice little Eye of Ra on my left arm, as well as a few other (less successful) attempts, I decided that perhaps I was ready for something more.
A friend and I took a trip to Minneapolis, just for fun. About two hours into our rather interesting five-hour car trip, we began to discuss what we were going to do there. After a few mintues, I suddenly decided that while we were there, I was either going to pierce my lip, or get a tattoo. Once I decided upon getting a tattoo, there was the small matter of deciding exactly WHAT to get, and WHERE. My friend found it rather amusing considering that I'm planning on becomming a tattoo artist, and I was at a loss as to what I wanted to get done. I guess I'd simply never given it much thought. And now I had only a few hours to figure it out.
Once we got to Minneapolis, the first place we went was Saint Sabrina's Parlor in Purgatory, the place where I was planning on getting my first tattoo....we looked around at the gothic clothing for awhile, and headed upstairs. I was greeted by a beautifully tattooed woman named Lisa, who was to do the tattoo. She asked me what I wanted, and where.....I told her that I wanted a small ankh upon my chest, and presented her with a drawing I had made of the ankh mintues before entering the shop.
She led me into the room in which she was to tattoo me, and had me take a seat in a dentistry-type chair. She took my drawing, and traced onto a sheet of thin, transparent paper, which she then sprayed with a mister. She explained that she was going to place a temporary tattoo in the location I indicated, to see how I liked it......I told her it was fine, after looking into a mirror in the room, and she got to work.
The first thing she did was wash her hands....then, after placing rubber gloves on, she got everything set up-the tattoo gun, the black ink which I requested, and gauze.
When she was finally ready, I lowered the top of my dress partially, so that she would be able to work more easily. I leaned back, and listened as she explained to me what I would be feeling.....a slightly sharp pain, and a warming sensation....and that's exactly what I felt.
As she finished the outline, and began filling it in, I was able to relax a bit more, and concentrate on the results. I was excited, and nervous at the same time.....knowing that however this thing turned out, it would be with me the rest of my life...!
Once Lisa finished, she went over the after-care with me, while handing me a sheet with the same information on it, and got me a small container of creme to put on it later on.
She put a small piece of gauze over the fresh tattoo, and after paying, I was
on my way.
As my friend and I walked down the stairs, and out of Saint Sabrina's, I felt entirely invigorated....I finally knew the thrill of having something so permanent.....and so beautiful, placed under your skin.
