Lovely Nipple Piercing. What's all the fuss about?
For some reason getting the thought of a nipple piercing gave me a lump in my throat you know a sickly nervous feeling in your stomach? A lot of the stories on this and various other sites had gave me the impression that it is indeed the most painful piercing you can get, but it can't be that bad right?
So far I've gotten seven piercings, nose, navel, tragus, helix, rook and conch; thankfully they have all healed fine so eventually I began craving a new piercing, one of my friends recently had her right nipple pierced but had to take it out due to it getting infected, although this sparked my interest in the piercing. Her nipple looked gorgeous with it, and I'd stare at it for ages!
We still don't know why her nipple got infected, nevertheless my interest was sparked and I was determined to get it, as stupid as it sounds I bought a lot of the 'Front' Magazine's as a lot of the girls who model for them have nipple piercings with tattoo's similar to mine. I think I just wanted to make sure that piercing would suit my body one hundred and ten percent. My sister found the magazine's and questioned me for hours on why I had them, part of the appeal of the nipple piercing was that hardly nobody would be aware I had it, the feeling of walking down the street and nobody knowing you have it. Anyway when I told her she was bemused as to why I'd want it as nobody would be able to see it, which little did she know what the whole appeal. My mother didn't agree with it, whilst my dad who was a hippy back in the 60's encourage me to be individual.
Anyway after weeks of weighing up the pro's and con's I decided to go get it done, I rang my best friend up and we went into town (Liverpool, England). I first went into a lovely piercing/tattoo parlor called 'Stigmata' I'd been pierced here in the past however only had simply ones done such as my ears. I filled all the forms out and went into the studio when the woman told me that they only had insurance for one person to enter the room at any given time, meaning I'd have to go through it on my own. Me and my friend all have identical piercings and we've always gotten them done at the same time, so having here there for support meant a lot to me. When I told the woman this she was so lovely about it and agreed that due to how nervous I was it was pretty important that my best friend supported me. So off we went to another piercing parlor called 'Bodyworx 2' which is situated in an alternative clothes building called 'Grand Central' anybody from Liverpool will be aware of it. I'd gotten my navel, nose and several ear piercings done here and I trust the people completely.
We walked in and Katie decided she wanted to get her tragus re-pierced due it falling out recently so we both filled out the forms whilst the woman who would do my piercing, Sandra dicussed the piercing with me. She made me feel so at ease and she'd done my nose and navel literally so fast I didn't even realise they were done, so i was super happy she would be the one doing my piercing.
We decided that Katie would have her tragus pierced first, so we went in where the other piercer Lucy done her tragus, i'm guessing she does ears etc whilst Sandra does the more difficult kind. I held her hand as the needle went through and despite having had it done 3 times she was still whimpering and saying how bad it hurt, which need less to say didn't exactly calm my nerves. We sat outside and waited for Sandra to set up whilst I asked for a glass of water due to being so nervous!
I still don't know why I was nervous but honesly I was totally shitting myself, I think it's because of all the stories I'd heard saying how painful it was and blood etc, in hindsight I regret reading these because I felt so stupid after the piercing for making a huge fuss.
Sandra led me into her room which was very very very clean, and she was so professional, she completely puts people at ease, obviously my best friend was there to hold my hand. As she set up she informed me about aftercare washing twice a day, once with really weak salt water and the other just with soap and water, after she gave me the form with cleaning information etc on she sat me back on the chair. My nerves were setting in now however I now think a lot of this was adrenaline I'd been so excited to get my piercing and certainly wasn't going to back out now. I pulled my top and bra down and was informed I had 'gorgeous nipples, perfect for the piercing' making me and my friend laugh further easing my nerves.
She cleaned the area with a wipe, and sprayed the freeze spray onto my nipple, I'd had the freeze spray several times before and it's amazing it totally numbs the area, however this time the spray hurt a tiny bit it was a stinging sensation as it was that cold, i was terrified in case my nipple actually fell off!
After leaving the spray ten seconds to set in she told me to face the other way and take a deep breath, she put my nipple in little clamps in order to get a straight aim, told me to take another deep breath and when I exhaled she pushed the needle through. "Really is it done?" Were my first words, honestly the only thing I felt was a teeny tiny pinch and that was it! I couldn't believe it, I was in shock and felt so stupid for being so nervous about it.
She then put a plain silver bar bell through which again gave me a little pinch but I wanted to watch her do all of this as I find it so interesting, although my friend was squeezing my hand harder than I squeezed hers because she watched the initial needle go in. She put a plaster across my nipple to protect it for a few hours, and gave me another one as I told her I was going out drinking later on that night and I did't want anybody to knock it. She gave me my sticker saying 'I was brave at bodyworx2 piercing today' which I'd started to collect and put around my room as a trophy of all my piercings. Again she spoke about after care and even showed us her nipple to show what they eventually look like once the swelling has gone done. I was told to come back into the shop in two weeks for a check up which they tell you to do on all piercings and sent me on my way.
I couldn't thank her enough I was so happy with it. If you live in Liverpool or even the North West of England you really should get pierced by her you won't come across another piercer who's more professional, friendly or fast.
It's been two days since my nipple piercing now and I sleep on my stomach which is a pain but so far I've had no problems with it, It stung for about half an hour after the initial piercing but that was it. Even in the night I don't have any problems and my boyfriend loves it! Only a few people know about it which makes me love it even more.
If you're thinking about getting a nipple piercing then I hope this story convinces you, it's not my favourite piercing and so far seems to healing brilliantly. Aslong as you go to a respectable piercing parlor then you should have no problems with it and the piercing itself doesn't hurt at all :)
