  • Member of IAM since August, 2002
  • Former maker of body jewelery.
  • I have lived in the Wizard's Tower... (In fact, it's "mine") A funky apartment in Kensington Market, in a building covered in psychedelic paintings, I've been there for 5 years as of April 1st. 2011 Now live in my dead grandparent's derelict and disintegrating house since end of May, 2011
  • I live with a girl named Gilly-Bean, a busker named Jamie who is about to move out, my long term girlfriend/fiancée (see below) and my two four kitties Aurynn Pants Magnificence (a magnificent tabby) and the Golden-eyed Commander of Wishes ("Goldie") (a gold, white and black calico) AND NOW Rudy (a grey tortie) and Norman (a beautiful sealpoint himalayan)
  • After about a decade of polyamory and womanizing I am in a single recent (1.5 months) long term (5 years as of tomorrow) (8+ years) awesome(sauce) relationship, with DJ Perple Doorknob Broomstick AKA City Center.
  • Now recovering from a major depressive episode that lasted since late 2009/early 2010. still struggle with depression and anxiety sometimes but doing pretty ok in the grand scheme of things as of 2016. rarely suffer from serious depression or anxiety anymore.
  • I make art-objects, art installations, sacred spaces, and sometimes paint or draw (badly). Sometimes I make electronic music or mixes. I throw raves and volunteer at parties and festivals. Frankly these days I mostly work, drink beer, embroider, paint, play video games, do gardening and the occasional nature walks and sometimes cook a fancy meal for the ol' lady. I am a member of the local NDP so actually have to volunteer to do political crap. This is a lot more occupying during campaign season.
  • I have a propensity for breaking into impromptu dances and/or improvised song (this has still not changed as of 2016 2019)
  •  Can't wait for 2020 so I can compare the state of the world to the old RPG Cyberpunk 2020

"Active users" - IAM death post-2011
3/13/2019 | 0 comments

So right now (not counting any profiles that have been deleted since listed dates, if there are any, I think most deletions happened when Shannon/glider was pushed out or left and a second wave for when the original IAM was torn down and replaced by this buggy monstrosity) I did a little crude research here and it looks like my theory that 2011 was the last marginally active year for the IAM community is correct- here's the data.

  • 34 profiles active since the start of 2019, out of tens of thousands of active users before Shannon left.
  • 73 active in past 365 days (74 in past 368 days)
  • 82 active since start of 2018 - the end of the first page is in 2017
  •  the last person on the first page is IAM:severed, last updated 4/27/2017 - almost 23 months ago
  • 107 active in past 730 days (2 years)
  • 110 to 112 profiles active since beginning of 2017
  • 130 to 131 profiles active in past 1096 days (3 years)
  • 135 active since beginning of 2016
  • 170 active since 03/13/2015 (past 4 years)
  • 184 active since beginning of 2015.
  • The end of the second page is IAM:ashleybrass - last updated 9/9/2014
  • 224 profiles active since 03/13/2014 (5 years)
  • 237-238 since beginning of 2014
  • Last person on 3rd page IAM:ct - last updated 04/03/2013
  • 325 active since 03/13/2013 (6 years) - just after this point a lot of previously inactive users came on to comment about Shannon/glider's passing.
  • 343-344 active since beginning of 2013
  • Last user on 4th page IAM:zeroluie - last updated 06/06/2012
  • 432 active since 03/13/2012 (7 years) - including the BME shop's basically empty profile. Not sure why the shop has a profile.
  • 439-440 since the beginning of 2012
  • Last person on 5th page IAM:sereem - no diary entries. Profile created between 10/31/2011 and 11/02/2011
  • Last person on 6th page IAM:mike_moore - last updated 08/02/2011
  • Last person on 7th page IAM:pierre_black - last updated 05/30/2011
  • 772 active profiles since 03/13/2011 (8 years)
  • Last person on 8th page IAM:disaster - last updated 02/13/2011
  • 832 active since beginning of 2011
  • Last person on 9th page IAM:onetribe - last updated 09/03/2010
I've got to go into work now. I am interested in gathering further data on frequency of diary entries over time as well. Let's see how that graph looks! Sounds like it could be a fun weekend project.

So besides all the other problems with the bme website and iam specifically, I just tried to place an order from the bmeshop and it... crashed when I tried to go to checkout. It said the admin had been notified. Yeah better get that fixed!

I slept in. It was nice to stay up late but I really wanted to have been moving already maybe on my way to work as it's one of those theoretically up to 10-hours work plus travel time and breaks days, and I have to get into the melt shop and chem lab relatively early tomorrow just not back-breaking early.

The previous entry shows 3/13 because it was saved shortly after midnight.

Make Yourself at Home, Why Don'tcha?

Second day of not actually forcing myself to go in when the co-worker I'm filling in for would go in for. Boy is this ever an improvement. My first time in the melt shop by myself, that's the dangerous and labrynthine part of the steel works, but it went fine. Having at least as many hours of sleep than fingers on one hand really helps.

To get to the steelworks I take a shortcut through a property owned by some weird guy, he's got a warehouse he lives in and a bunch of trailers and various vehicles parked around it. Sometimes he and a friend or two will have a bonfire there, they've got a big fire pit with short walls made of cinder blocks. I hear that teenagers will hang out there drinking sometimes because he doesn't care, and it's dark and off the main drag so people will park back there thinking perhaps that it's abandoned, and get up to various shenanigans. Sometimes they will drive away hastily as I make my way through.

As I walked through yesterday, in the late morning, I was greeted by a man perhaps in his late 40's or early 50's. He had a pickup truck parked where I usually see "shenanigans people" parked. He wore a puffy grey winter jacket, but had no hat, scarf or gloves. He was a short man with a sort of broad mullet-mohawk, and wore plain looking glasses.

I was wearing my high-vis gear, hardhat and safety glasses, and walking towards the neighbouring steel plant, so I assume it looked like I wasn't up to any shenanigans myself, and it seemed he wished to talk, so we approached each other and he pointed out a camp site to me. Yeah, a fucking campsite!

There's sort of a berm that runs parallel to the wall of the warehouse, and there is a chain-link fence between them. There is maybe a 6 or 8 foot wide gap between the fence and the foot of the berm, which is maybe 4 or 5 feet high and covered with shrubs and small trees. Based on the garbage I've seen back there it's a popular place to hang out and consume diverted pharmaceuticals, but I've never seen a human back there, just rabbits, cats, skunks, mourning doves and small hawks. But not far in there was now a dome tent, luggage, more clothing than usual and what looked like a cooler.

The man told me his partner owned the place and they had called the police who had come and gone and told them not to touch anything, and that they called them because it looked like everything belonged to a little girl, like maybe 10. With small girl clothes, colouring books and crayons or pencil crayons. I still haven't seen anyone there but when I came through again after work there was a police SUV (because they all drive SUVs here for some reason) - that doesn't mean anything: pigs sit back there all the time on break or to fill out paperwork which is what I think he was doing. He was parked over the only non-puddle spot on the road so I hope I gave him a good start when I lunged past the driver's window and front of his stupid giant truck trying to keep from soaking my feet. When I went through today there were clothes hung to dry on the fence. So whoever it is didn't get cleared out.

Visited Ossie at Casa Coffee (that used to be in Kensington market.) I'm not sure he's doing that well. Looks like business is slow, and he may be having issues with getting stock. Doesn't look like he's doing sandwiches or anything yet.

If I had time I'd literally volunteer to help him around the place. He was napping in the back and most of the lights were off, he complained of a severe headache so I gave him some Tylenol 1.

Refilled on French roast for the French press, and some of those spiced cashews. He's definitely dropped his prices (as Larry, also a former Kensington denizen, told me on Sunday, before complaining about the beans being stale).

I got new work boots. The gf picked them up for me yesterday. I filled them with extra insoles, and it's nice not having boots that just let water in.

She just texted an omw, so that's the end of this diary entry.
